A real riding challenge - Hard Core Nullabor Posties

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Cider Monster, Jan 11, 2007.

  1. If anyone out there is looking for a real riding challenge, and help a
really good cause as well, THE POSTIES ARE BACK!! Get your entry in now.
    Not many places to spare...

The Desert Stormin’ Posties are back and this time they’re taking it to
a whole new level. Some will call it adventure, some will call it Purgatory.
Last year’s event saw 35 of them rattle their postie bikes from
Birdsville to Alice Springs, raising a total of $80 000 for the RFDS and
hospitalizing 25 percent of the field in the process.
Codenamed Hardcore Nullarbor Posties, this year’s event will kick off in
May 2007 from Glendambo in South Australia and finish in Perth.
It will trace the Transcontinental Railway west then cut south to the
head of the Great Australian Bite for a mixture of rocky cliff top
riding and twisty overgrown twin track thru a side of the Nullarbor that
    few have ever seen.
The battle hardened posties will head for the beach at Cocklebiddy and
dodge Antarctic seals all the way to Israelite Bay before the final dash
    to Perth via Wave Rock.
The biggest leg between refuels will be 700 ks and riders will need to
be self sufficient, carrying their own fuel food and water.
Rob Wheeler from Desert Horizons Tours has thrown his weight behind the
ride with the offer of a support vehicle to pick up the deadies.
Hardcore Nullarbor posties is a not for profit ride and 100% of all
funds raised go directly to the RFDS
Entrants will need to raise a minimum of $1000 for the RFDS and 100
percent of all funds raised go directly to the RFDS.

Hmm. I hope that's not 700k between water points too. Else that's
going to be one overloaded postie bike!

I wonder if the RFDS made a profit or loss.

Reminds me of going to Avalon speedway for a charity speedway bike meet
to raise money for Geelong hosptial. Not only did they send them
buckets of money, but 2 patients as a bonus!

True, it'd be around 20 litres of fuel at a conservative 35km/l.

  6. Looking at it they do expect the poor thing to carry that much fuel, and
    the rider's water.

Pushing it a bit I think - If you break down or get stuck you could be
    in trouble.

  7. It is pushing it a bit, but that's all part of the challenge.

It certainly pushes your riding and endurance to the limit and no big
nancy off-roader to cover for all your mistakes.

There is always a sweeper pair to make sure no one get's left behind and
a couple of 4WD's to scrape up the dead and dying.

Go on, do something good with your riding and meet a new challenge.

As we posties say; "Step thru or step aside"
