    camera?

I've found myself pondering this same question, as they've installed these
on the A339 between Newbury and Basingstoke also.

I'm talking about the Truvelo type with marks on the road in front here.

Why would they have the 'Gatso type' markings on the road behind the camera?

I ask because they've put some up on a road I use on my commute [1] and
before I sail through at eek MPH safe in the knowledge the camera can't
do me I thought it wiser to check :)

[1] A452 'M6 collector road' near to Junction 5, where the NSL has also
been dropped to 50. The cameras have been there a while but they look
    like they are working now.

.... as they already do, from time to time; on Millbank, SW1, for example.
My cousin was caught like this on the A41 in North London, a couple of years
ago. He knew the camera faced north but, early one morning, it was facing
    south and got him.

Actually, there are three lines on the road, beneath which are three
inductive switches. The first initiates the system, the second
calculates the time from the first one and the third triggers the
camera. This obviates falsing on vehicles travelling the other way,
    triggering on overtakes.
    That's most likely.

Piezo triggers I'm led to believe. (Was told it's Piezo crystal paint and
when you ride over it it sends a potential to the electronic wizardry)

  8. Oh no it doesn't.
I've had the Truvelo at Thrapston take pictures of my rear end (1) on
    several occasions.

I had a better look yesterday and it looks like there are 2 sets of 3
lines one just before and one level with the camera so presumably they
can turn it around. They also have the Gatso type (10 hashes separated
by about a metre) lines so I guess it could be that they were going to
    put a Gatso.

Mind you the camera was there before they put any marks down. Maybe they
want the option to put a Gatso if too many bikers get away with not
being caught by the forward facing camera.

    Doh :)
