Timo Geusch came up with the following;:
Sounds corny now, but we both fell for it at the time ... ;)

Mind, I had a little less to lose ...

Really? I never knew this. Bugger I kept the K75RT upright for 80,000
miles. I read the manual and never found a reference to obligatory
    binning :)

Indeed. Mind you, he was half right - the lack of petrol didn't exactly
improve its chances of firing up.

And indeed it appears that an NOS stator has been located and is on its
    way to me.

Between the spare stator that came with #2 and the two in the engines I
should be able to fix one up anyway but it would be a shame to fart
about with the wiring on a bike that's got a completely new loom in it
    already.

Nice bikes really. The fairing is thin and so a bit fragile though its
the same material as RT's. If you don't push the front hard on wet roads
    it will be ok.
IIRC, and this is going back, the C has a horrible 18 inch rear wheel
but the S has the 17 as per the 1000cc.

Only other comments I would make are that because of the extra balance
shaft metal the 750 and 1000 are in the same ballpark weight wise and
have similar fuel consumption. I think an '87-92 K100RS with a good
steering damper is the better bike. They did an all black special and
the Ltd Edition white/blue in this period, both of which have the ally
anodised black, which is much better.

Then again this 750 is very cheap.

eBay 4607974288 would be good if bidding doesn't go crazy. Damper and
screen and your away. You will only break a proper fairing.

  12. I suspect that the BMW owners' club attracts a slightly different kind of
    person:)

Speaking as one who once owned an RD400 and an R80/7, at the same time.

You *do* realise that I've bought it already, didn't you?

It's cheap mainly because of the high mileage which doesn't bother me
to much. I wanted a cheap and reliable winter hack and this kinda looks
    like one.
Urgh. If I buy another K100 I'll get myself an RS, thanks.

Oversize panniers on the BMW to fetch all the RD parts?

  18. Not needed:) It was an ex plod model with the narrow panniers, but they're
surprisingly capacious as long as no item exceeds the dimensions. RD400
    crankshafts, pistons etc. fit.
