A bit of fettling followed by an outing on each of the three bikes that is
currently roadworthy (the LS650 needs some minor engine work). Wonderful to
be back on 2 wheels after nearly three weeks layoff. I shall be back on
V-Strom tomorrow for my 30 mile each way commute so I was pleased that it
started immediately despite 3 weeks of standing (under a cover) out in the
snow and ice. I saw a few other bikes as well so it looks like I wasn't the
only one enjoying this 7 deg C heatwave.

    Hummph.

Because I've been quite ill with this kidney problem for the past
couple of weeks I haven't been able to ride the bike at all, so it's
languished in a filthy and salt infested state in the garage since
before Christmas. I pushed it out of the garage so I could clean it
before going for a short ride today; no such luck. Once the bike was
out of the garage I was so knackered I had to go for an hour's rest
before I could function again. Anyway, I got it clean, which took a
good two hours and then had to go for a couple of hour's sleep to
    recover.

It's going to be at least a month before I'm able to ride again,
because I've been fitted with a 250mm long stent between my left kidney
and bladder. That has to come out[1] and then the 15mm dia kidney stone
I have has to be broken up properly with ultrasound treatment[2] before
    I can pass it naturally.

[1] There's only one way into the bladder and thence the kidney from
the outside - that's where they go in to fit a stent and that's where
they go into to remove the bloody thing. Believe me when I say it is
not a comfortable operation, I felt like someone had driven a JCB up
    there afterwards.

[2] Lithotripsy is what it's called.

I took the Tenere out for a last blat before I head off to the Elefant
in 10 days time and was surprised how many other bikes were on the
road. I suppose the weather was good compared to the last few weeks so
everyone was taking the chance to get out for a ride while the sun was
    shining.

I suppose it's too much to expect for it to be the same when we're
    away...

I've just depressed myself by looking at the 10 day forecast for
Thurmansbang (nearest big town to the rally) and it's allegedly going
to snow for 9 out of the next 10 days with every night before
    freezing.

I made myself feel slightly better when I checked the forecast for
Prague and it's only going to snow for 8 out of the same 10 days. At
least we're only camping 2 nights this time.

**** it, it'll give you lot something to laugh about when stories
start to filter back from the Eastern Front.

Yep. Initially on Shuttleworth, but last time (Tuesday) I was stuck on
Reggie Hart cos Shuttleworth was full. Docs tomorrow to see what gives.

Well, I was chuffed this morning I have to admit, the Lambretta started
16th kick, quite pleased, and the CB500R started after 20 seconds on
the starter motor. All that after they have both been stood under
covers on my parking space since the 11th December :)

On a side note, quite a few scooters from all over in Bedford this
morning and by 1pm a couple of bikes.

Did feel sorry for the guy that was sitting on the Piazza on his Honda
CB1300 which looked mint (03 reg) having his pic taken by his mate on
    his mobile.

I saw him hand him the phone to see, put my helmet on, looked up and
both bike and bloke were one the ground!! One small dent in tank,
several crankcase scratches, one twisted mirror and one snapped clutch
lever was all the damage [1] so lucky I guess.

[1] OK, think his pride took a rumple too.

I didn't notice any difference between the two really. Consultant on
Shuttleworth was Mr Callam and on Reg Hart it was Mr Charfare.

Callam (fucking good bloke and doesn't **** about) is general surgery
and breast care, so im assuming when you went under him that was his on
    call.

Charfare is quite good too, IIRC he was in fact Callums registrar for a
good many years and should be more than qualified to do your "job"

Neither are Urology specific IYSWIM but more than capable.
If however you see either of the urology specialist nurses, Ann
Britchford or Dawn, tell them I said hello and they'll take care of you
    for sure. Honest.

My MT500 failed to kick into life, so I gave up and left it on trickle
    charge :/

All the electric start bikes managed to cough into life :9

Lovely here, but I didn't get out of bed til about 3pm so the closest I
came to a bike was when I walked past the gixer in the garage carrying a
    box of christmas decorations.

Saw plenty of bikes when I popped out to the supermarket though.
Everyone's enjoying the significantly warmer weather and lack of snow.

Ouch ouch fuckity ouch! At least you aren't missing much. Today was a bit
of an aberration. Sleet forecast for later this week so not ideal biking
weather most of the time. GWS

Bugger. The "heatwave" around here is -7 C instead of -14.

At least the main roads are snow- and slush-free, so I took
the bike for a short, 20 minute ride, just to get it moving.
Not very comfortable without electrics and handlebar muffs,
though, I've got to put them on finally, I guess. :)

Mine nearly coughed into next door this morning!
Went and started the CB and let it idle to warm up as I got my gear on
to get to work. Came back out and pushed it off the centre stand and
the fucker nearly shot forward on me! I had visions of it going up
their path and through the door.

I'd left it ticking over yesterday afternoon, but I'd only left it in
1st so that the scottoiler could lube the chain up a bit and get rid of
a few bits of what appeared to be surface rust starting due to non use.

    What a ****.
