New boots required for both bikes. The Continental Whatevertheyares on
the RGV have squared off and the 014s (I think) on the Gixer are
starting to look a bit bare so it's time for me to go shopping.

What's the current hoop of choice?

The RGV could be a little more interesting, as it weighs sod all and
    has old-skool sizes - 110/70 and 150/60, iirc. Michelin don't seem to
do their 2CTs in those sizes.

    The floor is open...

My local tyre fitter is pushing Dunlop Qualifier RR's as the latest
    cure for all ills.

Phill says that Dunlop GPR10a is the tyre of choice according
to RGV250.co.uk and he reckons they're pretty good, but obviously
this is only track riding related.

He bought his through a weekend special at Busters for £110
a pair, so he bought two pairs.

Dunlop Alpha 10s on the RGV, available in the right sizes too - you'll
be impressed, I know I was when I tried them at Donington on the RGV
    Danny had.

Pirelli Diablo Corsa 3s or Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs for the Gixer.

Yup, see my post up there ^^^.
I've got these on the 'Tard [1] and they're very, very nice. They
are now within 10mm of the edge which is pretty impressive for
    such a tall bike!

[1] which, amazingly, has the stickiest tyres compared to the race
bike (Pirelli Diablo control tyre) and the 748 (BT-010s I think).

Can you not just swing by FWR? They're hardly far from your gaff.

You can collect and the place next door[1] fit to loose wheels for 23
quid staright away. I could meet you in Dunstable with paddock stands
    and tools if you're desperate.

    I think so, yeah.

I've got the non RR versions as factory fit, but they're just average.

Settles that one then. I practically ride past FWR on my commute to
work so I'll pop in one morning for some hoops.

The tyres on your 748 must have turned to bakelite by now, surely.

Heh. They got a damn good ragging round Cadwell for the two-dayer in
June (along with said RGV and the race bike) and they still worked
very well. Which reminds me that I must put the road kit back on
it as I'm sure it needs an MOT now...

The tyres on the race bike are even worse! They went on for Assen
in 2006 (May I think) then did the rest of the season. I started
on them in 2007 and did about 4 rounds before being torpedoed
at Castle Combe in July. The next trackday was at Snetterton in
early 2008, then the two-dayer at Cadwell, and then I raced on
them at Brands in July and came 7th. Still plenty of wear left
    on 'em!

Tyre place on Kennington Road, spitting distance from Vauxhall. Ride-in
    service, plenty cheapness.

I've just had a look on their web site and they don't list Rennsports
as being a stock item. If you do go that route, it might be worth
giving them a bell to see if they can get some in for Friday.

Alternatively, there's the tyre depot I use which you could stop at enroute
    to scouseville.

If you come off the M6 and onto the A5 then A483 I can meet you and show you
    where they are.

I used them for tyres on my 7R and B12 and had no problems. Quick,
cheap, always seem to have stock and always busy. I know WC's used
them, as I bumped into him there one saturday a few years ago (iirc he
fell off within minutes of riding away with new rubber) and I'm sure
    other UKRMers have too.

See other post re: Rennsports - not listed on the web site, so give
    them a call.

I am mighty impressed with them, but then there's also a few of
the "racers" [1] that insist on changing theirs for every race.
Which is nice 'cos they flog them on for about £50 a pair!

They are road tyres so they're meant to last, and it's not
like 62.5bhp is going to spin them on the rims either. I think
a decent suspension setup helps too.

[1] in the loosest sense of the word...

I haven't a clue regarding what's best for the RGV but for the 750 I'd
say that any of the latest superbike tyres will be good.

I know that's the most useless piece of advice you'll ever get but
none of the big manufacturers will sell something shit in their
'flagship' range so it's down to whatever you like the look of.

I've got Dunlop Qualifier RRs fitted on my 10R but I've only done
about 50 miles on them so any reports (1) from me would be best left
until I return from the IoM. I had Michelin Pilot Power 2CT rear
matched up to a sticky as snot Michelin Sports Cup on the front prior
to that but you can't get those fronts any more so nothing to say on
that combination apart from that it worked well.

    (1) First impression was that they're very good but I did manage to
get it to slide exiting a roundabout when the roads were damp.

    10R + damp road + new tyres = small slide doesn't mean they're
    potential killers.
