That's got me thinking actually. I s'pose if we're being generous with regards to 'know at *bit* about' ie.. doesn't mean expert. Mine would be. - Guitars [a bit] - Face to face business sales - Retail display product design - Business management - Prostitution [natch] - Giving the appearance of competence [most useful skill] -- cane [at] ukrm.org ¦ fireblade, r30 botafo t#50 f#03 YTC #15 bbb #6 apostle [kotl] New? http://www.ukrm.net/faq/ukrmscbt.html Rideout? http://www.horrible.demon.co.uk/botafof/ "Brace yourselves ladies, I'm coming in dry"
Ginge wrote So today I heard this little rant from a geezer who does lecturing about stuff at some university or something. He was going on about how all the trouble we are getting with the young Blacks and Yardie gangs and how it is all down to illiterate bleeding Jamaicans. After listen to this for a bit I suggested that it seemed he wasn't from Jamaica "No mahn," he said, "I am from Trinidad."
Do - Take your business elsewhere, thereby helping drive profits down further and increase the likelihood of even more jobs being moved to India - Buy shares (you're not hard up, are you?) and make your feelings as a shareholder known. Don't - Make any statement beginning with "I'm not racist but..."
Agreed 100%. I'm not an expert at much, but I can fake being one Your list is pretty work orientated - you need some more hobbies.
Oh we've had that done to us in the good old public sector every 2-3 years for as long as I can remember. Complete stupidity most of the time as all it does is reduce output because the workforce are less certain about their personal positions and the organisational dislocation makes getting things done much harder. Well oh great captain of industry what is the point then because I certainly don't see it. Do you deliberately reorganise your business, workforce and working methods all the time in order to keep yourself busy while smugly believing that somehow it is justified? I very much doubt it. The only changes you will make is if you need to make something new then you'll buy the equipment and retrain your people or take on some new ones. Or if the profitability is going to rat shit you'll sack some people or buy a machine to do it cheaper or stop making the unprofitable line. Those are reasonably legitimate business decisions and not the corporate strategy bollocks that big companies enjoy doing and usually get completely wrong.
Quite easily. I feel enriched by not using it, I remain unsoiled from not having to express myself as though I'm reading the voiceover for a multi-media presentation of the latest marketing vision. I don't believe that working in IT necessitates a full on interlock with someone else conceptual dictionary. In conclusion: Plain English - that's what the world needs more of.

this is going to be really depressing. transport whatever I end up doing at work - I always end up as "the expert" or at least being perceived as one. ticketing systems (I was actually identified as a world expert in that particular field) music - well pop music and stuff from the late 70s onwards. I now realise after encountering the range of musical tastes on ukrm [1] that I know very little about music at all. Err that's it. I really am far duller than I thought I was. I need a new life. What kind of management consultant are you? Lower costs = higher profit. That's why we outsource to India/China/Taiwan.
