    Indeed.

Strikes me that in order for the company trading in the UK to do best by
the interest of the shareholders it needs to make sure that the UK has
the money to pay for it's services. Directly taking money out of the UK
economy cannot help in this respect. Silly short termists every one of
    them.

At the time of buying I didn't have funds to buy a Triumph, if I was buying
now I would happily purchase a Triumph.

It was an interest prog to watch, if a little overly-evangelical at
times. It seemed to entirely gloss over the fact that the form of
globalisation we're seeing at the moment is as close to the ideal as
Soviet Communism was to Marx's original design.

Globalisation isn't necessarily bad. If only certain large economies
(eg. US) would stop throwing their weight around and fucking over
developing nations wholesale, the protesters and nay-sayers would
    have a far weaker point.

And very soon, they'll be 4,000 HSBC wogs more.

So we'll all see our bank charges drop, will we?

I think there's a "into the shareholders pockets and the chairman's

    Cynic.

Whilst shares aren't a one way bet (although we keep forgetting this on
a cyclical basis...) I don't think many shareholders have grown fat on
    dividends recently.

And anyway HSBC's investors aren't anticipating a bonus since the share
    price went down yesterday

No, realist. I do work for a large UK bank...
No, but banks still pay dividends, while a lot of other companies
don't, so if you hold your bank shares for a considerable amount of
time, the dividends compound your return, especially if you reinvest
them which is the whole idea. For long-term buy and hold strategies
the difference even a small dividend can make is astonishing.
Not a surprise - there are already some strike threats, and strikes
are never good for business. Guess why there's all that union busting
going around, especially in the US of Ayayay. Appearantly they're
starting to export union-busting specialists to the UK now. Maggie
still has a lot to answer for...
