    Italian speedo, innit.

I had 2 cars where they didn't register any speed under 20mph.

    Heh.

Way back in time I remember a friend throwing a 100k mile party for his
    MkI Fiesta.

    (SteveH) struggled to ejaculate:
I did that for my 1965 Humber Sceptre (CPY 777C) in -erm ... 1980.
I'd promised to do it, so a bottle of Asti Spumante travelled taped to
a strut in the boot until it happened. It was on the way back from
Newcastle - on the Tyne Bridge, on a Saturday afternoon, when it
clicked over. So all four of us got out, ran around the car and
popped the bottle of Asti all over the car and each other.

Then we had to do a bunk - sharpish, because it was a tow-away zone
then and the tow truck passed on the other side, the driver giving us
    the right beady eye.

ISTR he got back to the flat from Uni one day with the mileage on 99,998
so he drove a couple of miles around the student village, carefully
timing his return to the flat to coincide with 00,000 coming up on the
    clocks.

sweller emerged from their own little world to say
I like the rust tidemark. Does the lower third of the dial fill with water
    when riding in the rain?

In winter - yes. I then give it its annual weekend in the airing
cupboard followed by some windscreen sealant.

    Old bikes: they're great.

  11. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, sweller
    Indeed.

Now, a *properly* organised anorak would have reset the trip meter at
99,000 miles so that you could get all the digits to show 9 at once.

I need to know how much petrol is left.

Although that has become increasingly difficult now I've broken the
dangly wire reset arrangement which also explains why I didn't reset it
    at 99,000 miles.
