a damn good road safrety ad

  1. If only our tax money paid for stuff like this.

    http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/motorcycles/download/perfectday.mpg

    (18mb so probably broadband only)

It follows a rider going for a burn. Each dangerous thing on the way is
signposted - a bus has "caution, hidden dip" on the back. A hitchiker
has a sign "birmingham" then changes it to say "beware of the tractor"
before a tractor pulls out on the road,
There's a "split diesel" sign, a "watch out it tightens up" one, even a
    "cowpat 100meteres" one!

And at the end an overlay "if only" then "think! they aren't signposted
    in the real world".

A top class intelligent road safety ad that doesn't talk down, doesn't
    try to scare people.

    Never happen here!

Very good ad that. Nice music, good background noise and very watchable
while being witty and informative. I also like the one they're showing in
Victoria at the moment. Wonder how much they're paying those actors...
Actually, there have been quite a few good ones here, though all of them
tend to be the "shock you till you wipe off 5" types

You know it's a very sad state of affairs when an politician says "I crashed
my car because I was pissed..... but I wasn't speeding!!!"

He was travelling too fast for the conditions: the conditions
being that he was pissed and half asleep, and the appropriate
speed being stationary relative to the back of a taxi.

And of course it seems like he's been fiddling his travel claims:

You call a lump of cow shit that big an everyday obstacle? Jeez, you'd
    lose your bike in it.

    And our TAC levy....
Whilst it doesnt do that, it sort of places all responsibility of safety
with the rider and none on the other road users....the bus turning right
without indicating and the tractor moving onto the road are both situations
that occur everyday..of course riders should be aware that these situations
occur and pre-empt them but an advertising campaign and appropriate training
of drivers needs to put in place as a matter of urgency...

He's the unlucky one - he got caught out.

What a load of bullshit, hey? Fancy getting travelling allowance cos you
live more than half an hour away from work. Shit, even the building
unions can't get that sort of a deal for their members....

I got a travel allowance for driving to work for 14 years. They even paid a
minimum 7km which was great for the people who only lived 1 or 2 km from the
office. Was even better for the people who claimed mileage based on the
engine capacity of the V8 in the driveway and rode a motorbike to work instead
    :)

    ..04 cents?

Probably you mean 2 cents, ie, 2.00 cents... with 10% GST becomes 2.2 cents.
Though its not good, and I doubt its a service...

Did you catch yet another excellent demolition of Robert "paper" Doyley
at the hands of John Faine!

    Something along the lines of:

JF: What sort of comment would you make on this?

PD: Obviously very silly of him

    JF: What was?

    PD: Eh?

JF: Drunk driving or getting caught? Would you be saying this if he
    hadn't been caught?

    Cheers

I have former SEC workmates who used to do something similar. If working
in Power Station 'A' and they were required to work in Power Station
'B', they'd get travelling allowance for travelling a shorter distance
    to get to work.
