It is still much too early to know anything for sure, however.. the reports coming from Austin are indicating that we will soon enjoy a "clean helmet law" in our State.. As you will recall, the Bill was passed from the Law Enforcement Committee which heard testimony for the Bill, earlier this month.. The Bill was passed out of the Committee by a vote of 6-0 with one member of the Committee who didn't vote.. State Representative Lon Burnham of Ft.Worth objected to the Bill, but with all due respect, he didn't vote against it.. All said and done.. a good and clean Bill has been sorely needed in our State since the current one passed into law in 1998.. There is no way, we can give enough credit to all the good brothers and sisters, who have worked tirelessly to get this Bill passed into Law.. There is still a long way to go, but the Bill seems to be well received by most of our legislators and estimating the votes necessary to pass it, looks like we have more than enough.. That's another job well done for TMRA II and ABATE.. All the independent Clubs and the Confederation of Clubs deserve many thanks, for their support of all our efforts.. I'm also given to understand that the family who spoke in opposition to our Bill, reads this newsgroup regularly.. They lost a beloved member of their family due to an accident involving his motorcycle.. He was a son and a brother.. This family suffered a great loss, with the passing of such a fine, young man.. The Committee heard testimony from that mother, father and sister, as they described that horrible accident and the loss of their loved one.. That testimony was not only difficult for the Committee to hear, it was equally hard for those Bikers to listen to.. Every man and woman assembled in that chamber, was moved and felt the pain of loss.. There's no doubt that the family's loss is much greater than anyone's, but each time we hear of a brother or sister going down, it leaves a hole in our hearts.. Godspeed for that young man and God Bless those parents and that sister.. Remember please, that your anger and despair should not be directed toward any of us, in that room.. Hopefully.. when this posting is read by them, they can take comfort in knowing that our good will is surely directed toward them all.. The other Bills which we are addressing will be reported on, soon and we can commence the arduous task of making our concerted efforts toward successfully passing them, as well.. Failure to Yield, the Insurance Bill, and a couple of others will be forthcoming real quick.. We are midway of this Session and should be getting news of their status, in the next few days.. Heads up.. Your Friend in Irving Bill Walker
