A blast from the past.

My old GPz900R-A1 that is. Finished fettling it last night ready for new MOT
tomorrow and then in the paper it goes. Strange, but I'd never actually
ridden an early GPz900 before. Only a late A9 model. What a difference
between the two. The old one is much, much quicker on accelleration and has
a 'raw' feel to it. For a 21yr old bike I'm well impressed. The handling
improved markedly too when I upped the pressure in the rear tyre from 15psi!
(I knew there was one last job to do). I think the FJ has got the edge on
the Kwak in terms of 90+ roll-on, but the Kwak gets to a ton+ very
respectably for such an old beast.
Tempted to keep it and out my FJ1100 now. But I can see me getting into all
sorts of bother with the 900. It's a too much of a hooligan's commuting
tool, but it would be shame to run it into the ground with a few years of
commuting. That's all the 'fleet' legal now. Better find another SOB project
soon then...(or take some sound advice and get a 9R..mmmm..)

I'd never even owned a liquid cooled 4-stroke until i got the Kwak. If it's
not got fins on the barrels and you can't actually *see* the engine, it just
doesn't seem right somehow. It also makes it a pig of a job to do basic
maintenance what with taking sodding 'gert fairings off etc..
(I think also that I'd soil my shorts if i had a go on a Gixxer.)

  3. I still fancy one of those. My impression is that they're now as cheap
as they'll ever get and the classic guys will start grabbing them any
    day now.

    Excellent, excellent $$$$!

    <Mr Burns mode>

I might actually get a good price for the old beast then. It's a pity really
because I found a superb spares place ofr them within 8 miles of my front
door. (The GPz900 owners club guy who runs the parts business from his
    house)

I'd want a bit more than you'd probably offer :>) and I gather that your
haggling skills are 'the stuff of legend'. In response to my post in UKRMC
you reckoned in good nick it may be worth about £1400 or so.
I was going to put in our local free ads (www.tradeit.co.uk) for a week or
so at an *outrageous* price as a "modern classic" (!) and see what I can
get. I'm only selling it to finance another SOB (the SO will freak when I
tell her I've got rid of one bike but bought another *with a free
    trailer*!).
I'll send you some closeups later today when I get home if I get the chance.
I'm off to a rally this weekend immediately after I get it MOTd this
afternoon, so it may be Sun when I get the pics over to you.
    cheers,
    JB

    JB fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
Despite the press at the time raving about them, I actually never liked
the GPz900R, much preferred the GPz1000RX (which the press were less
    favourable about).

I despatched on one for week while my CB was off the road. bloody
uncomfortable and it felt like a barge compared with the 900R.

I had one as a company bike, this one:

and did a lot of Guildford/Slough/north Wales commuting and found them
slick and comfy, different folks different strokes I guess.

Let's have a squint at some pix. Erm, you don't want a SOB (see other

    There's a difference? :)

    <hangs head in shame> I was a hooligan, LC's, Z650's, Z1000, GPz750
Turbo's but then I got seduced by the dark side and got given a K series
for a week, that was mid/late 80's had them ever since. I am now a
    *tourer* :'(

Not really, I knew some LC riders who aspired to being hooligans, but
they were just too bloody nice. One of them almost shit his pants the
first and only time his 250LC hit the powerband.
