A bitter blow

    Or perhaps the opposite. My compressor / starter thing has just died, or
    at least the compressor bit.

    Suggestions for a cheap alternative?

    Ah, I see what you mean, a mobile start/charger/compressor thingy.

    I never had much use for one, as I'm in the RAC if i'm away from home.

    They're 60-odd quid from the machine mart site or £55 from here

    Ditto, but the compressor but it's quite useful for:
    a) Inflating tyres when all the air lines in Harlow seem to be buggered
    b) Inflating tyres and boosting batteries of cars in storage.
