Just been in my local, currently run by a HA, and not too badly if I
    may say so.

There's a beer named after TT hero John McGuinness, and it's not the
obvious Irish burnt barley beer. If you find it, I recommend it -
it's not bad at all. A pale red in colour, it's quite rich and malty
but still has a hoppy edge, and goes down like a cheap whore. 4.2%
    abv.

Apparently we have a new micro-brewery nearby, well nano-brewery really.
It produces 36 gallons a month in a bloke's garage. Morton's ale is
being trialled in four pubs. Haven't sampled it yet.

It was already pretty well anaesthetised, thanks. Snecklifter's good
too, although since Jennings were bought up a couple of years ago it
can only be a matter of time before it's another identikit $BEER.

<checks> Marstons plc. Could be worse, if Greene King had taken them over
the Cockinthemouth brewery would be closed by now. I used to like GK as
Abbott is a lovely ale. Unfortunately, they have spoilt Ruddles & Moreton
beers. Everything made in BStE has the same taste/smell profile, identikit
$BEER as you call it. I tend to avoid their products now.

Marstons, on the other hand have increased their range of ales. They are
making some superb strong pale ales under the Marstons brand. My regular
trips to the south coast can confirm that Ringwood's Old Thumper remains as
good as ever. Marstons seem to use their traditional brewing processes as a
positive marketing tool, same with the Lakeland water in Jenning's.
