A bit more spannering

A couple of weeks ago, I fitted R&G bungs to the Tiger, and I decided
this afternoon to wire in the accessory socket and GPS and connect up
    the Scottoiler.

By the end of the day, the accessory socket was wired up, the GPS was
wired up but not working and the Scottoiler is still in its box but has
moved from the hallway to the garage.

Rather pissed off that it appears that I've got to take the crash bungs
off every time I want to take off the lower fairing panels as the little
rad end pieces that the bungs go through have to come off to allow the
    fairing panels to move.

Ah well, at least it's the easier near-side one that's got to come off
to allow access to the GPS wiring so I can see if I can resolve the
problem. I'll have to see if I can find the pinouts for the Garmin 2610
    lead somewhere.

the OE lead comes with a black wire, red wire and an audio socket. It's not
rocket science to work out which is 12V & 0V, spkr + & spkr -

Just in case you need a pretty picture for the hard of thinking[1] here is
    a pdf http://vidar1.tripod.com/garmin_26xx.pdf page 9

Cheers; pins 1 and 2 then
Our presentations often have subtitles for the hard of thinking. I've
often fancied a "Thinking Dogs for the Blonde" T-shirt.

That pdf's useful, for a lot more than the pinout diagram. Cheers,

Been out to check and no joy on the lead.

To add to the fun though I thought I'd check the voltage on the
accessory socket and as soon as I popped in my probes... something went
pop under the saddle. No volts and now the optimate (that connects via
the socket doesn't think the battery's there any more.

Ho hum. Time to wait for daylight methinks.

Oh dear. Sounds like you shorted the central 12V terminal to the earth
    casing, blowing the fuse/trip.

I fitted a euro/hella/DIN plug onto my Garmin lead. The wires are very
thin so I filled the surplus space in the plug with silicon sealant to
stop the wires flexing and breaking. Made a good waterproof seal as
well. 5 years, 4 continental trips and all is well.

Though oddly I was using the optimate extension lead so the pins were well
shielded. Not sure how I shorted it
    Sounds like a good idea.

First job tomorrow though is to strip out the original owner's heated
clothing wiring as it looks shoddy

So, you blew it up, and *his* wiring's shoddy?

    Riiiiiiiight.

I might well print that and stick it to the garage wall.

Ended up being the 1A in-line fuse in the Garmin loom. I'm not overly
delighted with the end result as I've tied the wires rather than cut
them down to fit, but it is on and working.

I ended up leaving the switched supply wire that had been crimped into a
relay block in place. Odd that the one connection into the loom had been
done well (so it seems) but the remainder of it was put together with
    cheap crimped terminals.

I might rework it with solder and heat shrink.
