Anyone else watching this? I enjoyed that flathead Harley rebuilt but I can't hep feeling depressed at the obvious appalling build quality (from the manufacturer) of the Triumph Bonneville T120.

Makes you wonder why you'd want to restore one in the first place.

    Depressed but unsurprised?

This series repeats about every 3 months. Most people with Sky have
probably seen it more than once.

Not this time round. TBH, by the time I'd seen A Car Is Born, A Plane
Is Born, A Chopper Is Born and A Trike Is Born, I was a bit Born'ed
out. Good series, mind, and I'll certainly watch again at some point.
    And Freeview.

Build quality of the manufacturer or the last guy who rebuilt it?
Brit bikes weren't generally that shite when new , after all tens of
thousands were sold in the sixties when there was a japanese
    alternative.

    In message
I have also had Jap bikes with bolts that were made of finest cheese.

His obvious delight at having a go on the Triumph had me smiling like a
    loon too.

Don't think I've seen the Harley rebuild but since I haven't been
watching TV much over the last year it's no surprise.

I'd agree that other bikes of the period was frequently just as bad. Somehow
the "built down to a price" philosphy was so much more apparent in that
period when compared to the older Harley that he (or rather "his team")
    rebuilt.

A bit like rebuilding a Morris Marina. I mean, why would you want to?

Thinking of pianos and suitable fates therefore, I recall a bike rally
where a Marina was smashed into pieces by big upside-downie(hah!) heads
using axes and sledgehammers and passed through a toilet seat - in less
than twenty minutes. Went down well with the crowd.

My brother & I did the same[1] to a Fiat 500 when dad asked us to
dismantle it & left us to it. Judging by his reaction when he returned,
I think our ideas of dismantling were slightly different.

In our case the crowd was a couple of young kids who turned up near the
end, & were most impressed when we told them the reason the car was
smashed up was because we'd jumped it over the garden wall.

[1] Apart from the toilet seat.

  12. We used to do much the same thing when I were a lad, only with pianos.

Yes, indeed. There's even a Guinness record for speed for it. That's
why I mentioned piano in the first line of my response, see?

    Seen what?
I just noticed tonight that iPlayer has non-BBC channels.
Something called "itv" mostly. Any good?

Oh, then it should have been rendered "A Bike is Born", psurely?
Kids these days, no sense of grammar.
Heh. I haven't trimmed my beard at all since September -- I heard
rumours it was going to be an especially cold winter -- and today I have to
get my licence photo renewed. <grin> Had a photo-pass for RAL made up
just recently, it looks fairly OTT.

My beard has capacity for a breeding pair of badgers too, as it
happens. The source for quite impressive threats of domestic violence,
it is. I now match my passport photo, however, and that could come in
    useful.

    Photo-licence chappy at the PO:
"How do you like this shot, sir?"
    Me: "That'll do."
    "OK"
"Now I can shave my beard off..."
Then, after a disastrous first attempt at signing my name on a touchpad
with the reverse end of a ballpoint:
    "How's that?"
"Hmm, it's a bit manky, let me try again."
    Second attempt was marginally better.
    "That OK?"
"Yes, don't want it too perfect, they might get suspicious."
"Especially after you shave off your beard!"
