I did that on my mum's Mini Traveller, and it helped a regular road car.

The S had a solid grille up front, with only a hole cut to feed the oil
    cooler some fresh air.

At least the 860 had CDI so that was a big help.
We came down from Qld for the first GP and although there was flooding we
managed to avoid pretty much all the rain. JD's 750GT still managed to
cause trouble though when one points condenser went short-circuit (luckily!!
[1]). I just managed to get the Repco before closing time and asked for a
condenser with a lead about 3 inches long.
    What's it for?
    Well a Ducati actually.
We don't stock parts for motorcycles.
I know but I just want a points condenser with a lead about 3 inches long!
Finally he brought out a few and let me pick a Camry one which did got us
going again straight away. (And is probably still on the bike as far as I'm
    aware!).

  4. Memories . . .

I learned to drive in a 1956 MG Magnette and my best mate had a Riley
    that his dad owned.

I don't recall either of them suffering from electrical problems
though so can only assume they didn't have Lucas. This was before I
was interested in messing around with engines, so wasn't paying
attention. Girls were much more interesting.

  5. Yes. You need an octane booster. Not cheap but you can get them from
repco/supercheap. Wynns make one but can't remember the name off the top of my
    head.

    This is true.

Johno was already invalided out from the armed forces due to WWI!

Wynn's have a whole range of 'Spitfire' products. I have a bottle of
    the Spitfire Octane Booster.
