Probably not, but my thoughts towards a motorcycle are usually formulated
    with a "daily-rider" mindset. :)

  4. that is a wonderful mindset....i got to ride my bike today...was very
enjoyable...took it to a back road(way back in the woods..hehe)...was
    a good ride...i enjoy this old bike...actually i just enjoy riding a
motorcycle, and wish i could do it more often...here lately I have
ridden the bike about three times in the last month....totalling about
    100 miles or so....<sigh>

Well... Yesterday I got a synchronizer and synced them. They were
about 10-20 mm off from each other. After syncing it ran fine, idled
smooth on the stand until I rode it about 4 blocks then it refused to
    idle and power dropped.

So today I bottomed the mixture screws, backed them out two turns
each. It ran fine sitting on the centerstand. Took it about 4 blocks
and it refused to idle and acceleration died.

I'm beginning to think I've got bigger problems, like scored pistons
or something else that's coming into play after the engine heats up.

    Any thoughts?

    Fuel starvation?

Here's another fun one to think about- an electronic crank sensor that fails
when heated, taking away the timing reference for the coils.

Idling fine requires very little gas. Drive 4 blocks and then acceleration
dies sounds like limited/restricted fuel flow.
    1) Check for clogged fuel filter (if bike has one)
    2) Pinched or kinked fuel line-limits flow to carb, idles fine then
accelerates and as flow is limited bike dies or loses power as it starves
    for gas.
    3) Vacuum lock in the tank. As fuel goes out, air must enter the tank or a
    vacuum is created.
If the vacuum is strong enough fuel will not flow into the carbs and bike
dies. You stop, open tank to check gas, air enters, fuel flow restored.
All of the above would have somewhat similar symptoms to what u have
    experienced.

After syncing I installed a fuel filter in each line and put in a
couple of peices of car hose to extend them between the petcock and
the filters but there're no kinks.

I thought about trying to clean the screen on the petcock but fuel
    flows freely at both outputs.

    float adjustment?

Consensus is still a fuel problem? all else being equal and unknowns
    remaining unknown?

I guess I'll try and track down some needle valves and floats this
week and try to rebuild 'em next week.

Anyone know a line on "rebuild kit"s ? The local Suzuki dealer would
only sell me individual parts (like O-rings for $4...).

There are several dealers on ebay that sell complete rebuild kits
