  2. Is that how Archimedes moved the earth?
He was famous for his screw and said that
he could move the earth if it was firm enough.

  4. John Barnes' novel "Mother of Storms" deals with a catastrophic release of
methane into the atmosphere due to a missile strike on the clathrate beds
under the Arctic Ocean. About 173 billion metric tonnes of methane...

Does that predate Don't Pick the Flowers by I can't remember who ?
Because if it doesn't then it wasn't an original idea by any means.

  8. DF Jones. Also known as "Denver Is Missing". Same sort of thing, oil drill
hits a "gas pocket", gas escapes, causes havoc. Predates "Mother of Storms"
by 20-odd years, but the science is crap, and MoS deals specifically with
the methane clathrates that were under discussion.

Nitrogen as I recall. The sign you were about to die was a nasty
coppery taste as the tale was told.

    Which is good news.

Easy to say about SF with hindsight.

  11. Easily countered by celebrating a "no burrito day" in Mexico.
