93,000 Americans killed since war on terror began...

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Demetrius XXIV and the Gladiatores, Jan 19, 2004.

  1. Not at all true. There's around 40k traffic fatalities annually so
since 9/11/01 that means 93,000 civilians have been killed since we
started fighting the good fight, 6,300 of which were motorcyclists.

93,000 dead Americans littering our streets while the perpetrators go
unpunished. 93,000 families having to deal with the loss, both
emotionally and financially. Think of all the broken hearts and homes
the terror of stupidity and incompetent driving wreaks upon our
    nation.

Perhaps if we paid more attention to errant cars smashing into
things/people than jetliners, we could spare far more agony. I'll bet
it's a whole lot cheaper too!

  4. And deaths due to air pollution (largely from motor vehicles)
are about 70,000 per year, so it's probably safe to double
    that number.

Probably the most reasonable thing to do is to immeidately
ban all petroleum based fuels and convert to methane, which is
a relatively easy switchover and a whole lot cleaner. Now all
we have to do is to get Bush and Cheney behind this idea.

  6. I do. US traffic fatalities are numerous.

More died on US roads during the Vietnam war than in Vietnam.

But give them some credit, FFS! You're being really negative, and are
obviously biased against the American armed forces!

No murders - that is an outstanding acheivement!

  11. That air pollution is harmful to human health? Oh my...

Do they allow a helmet exemption in the UK when you have your head so
    far up your arse?

  13. Some neighbors already have a car that runs on synthetic cow farts.
What do you think gets piped into peoples houses by the gas company ?

  15. Long term, I was in fact thinking of methane hydrates.

I thought that screwing this up would produce sudden warming not
cooling. Still seems more promising than hydrogen, more benign
and plentiful than petroleum, with better portability and without
the storage and security issues of nuclear.

Short term, we definitely do need more methane sources and this seems
like one of the few sane parts of our recent energy proposals.

  20. If it cooled the earth I wouldn't worry too much. We seem to have a
pretty good handle on how to make global warming. A little bit of
coal or petroleum soot to reduce the albedo. Seems more reasonable
to worry about warming than about cooling.
As compared to other energy sources ? I think they're all worrisome.
Some kind of really massive methane release from oceanic hydrates
could be very nasty I guess but I'm not sure how you precipitate it.

One thing I'm not clear on is what happens to atmospheric methane.
Does it persist or are there processes which act on it ?
