I replaced the seals on my 1982 yamaha xt 550 but cant seem to find
anyone who can tell me how much oil to put in.

  2. It's simple. It's 10-20 cc more than half whatever bottle of
appropriate fork oil you can buy in your vicinity. Law of nature, or
    summat.

Well, the information I got from a quick Google (in German, the
preferred XT language) was 369 cm3 (per leg I presume).

So it seems the Reid law of oil capacity was not fully
implemented in -82. But I agree that it seems to be a good
    rule of thumb.
I would fill a fully compressed fork leg without spring to
150 mm from the top as that is a good reasonable level
for that sort of bike. Then if it is way too soft at full
compression I'd increase cm by cm to 120 mm and no more.

Or do a better net search, or phone Yamaha, or ask a
    good dealer.
