    Hello,

I have an 82 Nighthawk with 31000 miles on it and it has an
electrical problem. I was driving up my drive and the bike just died
like I had hit the kill switch. I checked to see if I had, and that
was not the cause. All lights were out and nothing worked. I left it
sit for 2 hours and then took the tractor to pull it up the rest of
the drive and just to be sure it was dead tried it. It started. I
then drove to the garage and once again died. This was three weeks
ago. Sunday I tore the instrument cluster apart to change a bulb and
looked for loose wires or anything else odd in that area. Nothing
other then the burnt out bulbs. I then thought well I might as well
try it again and yes it did start. Shut it off and walked away happy
and came back a little later and nothing.
About six weeks ago I installed a Vetter fairing and was wondering
if any of that might have affected it? It did take three weeks to
happen so I wasn't to positive if that could be the area of concern.
Could the ignition switch be shorting out? Is the kill switch dying
and shorting things out? The battery is three months old and reads
12.7 on the meter when I check it. I have checked all the fuses I
could locate and they were okay.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

    Jim
