Recently bought an old Virago on e-bay. In the month I've had it, it
always started quickly and easily (usually without choke). I had only
ridden it around town 1 - 2 miles at a time; a lot of stop and go all
    under 40mph.
It always seemed to run fine. No indication of bogging, stalling or
    backfiring.

I finally took it to get gas the other day. I filled the tank, rode
it for about 15 minutes, took it home, and shut it off.
It hasn't started since. It cranks fine (yes, of course, the typical
Virago started grind and hang). It has spark at both wires. A couple
of times, it sputtered a little, like it was at least trying to
    start. Now I get nothing.

Summary: It ran OK, I filled it with gas, now it won't start.

The only filter or screen I can see are the screens on the petcocks.
I drained the tank completely through the petcocks set to prime.
No visible evidence of rust in tank or water in gas.

Hopefully you didnd't put diesel in it!
Did you fill it too close to the top?

Maybe I should try diesel. Gas sure isn't working (lol)
    It was definitely gas.
    Too close to the top?
Is that like,"did you check the muffler bearings?", or "did you try a
chain stretcher?", or are you serious?

I guess some of the newer bikes can't be filled to the top because
pollition devices or canisters or something in there.
I just thought if it wass tooo full there might be a vacuum problem
    or sumthin'.

I'm not that knowledgeable technically, but I do like cheap and easy
    solutions, if possible.
