Macua GP, as Loz says. Famous for photos of riders brushing the
concrete wall with their shoulders as they corner.

Gus has gone and got himself rather crocked in Macau, it would seem - he
smacked into a sea defence wall, went flying over and landed feet in the
sea, in the process breaking an arm and tearing knee ligaments. I know
he's not reading this (yes, really) but GWS Gus.

My own bike is a possibility, (although the whole binning-it thing is a
consideration). My interest is somewhere with a modocum of tuition, not
    simply a track-day.

I gather you found this out from one of the blokes at work?

    Oh arse. GWS Gus.

If Mary-Anne needs comforting she knows where to come, not that she'll
    be reading this of course..

Nothing to do with our outfit, I'm afraid; you'll have to pursue that
through other channels. Good luck, and pass some this way if you get
    some...

If I'm back in the UK, I'll be doing a couple of runs there past
easter, so if you need a support vehicle (taking a car, more fun to
    me).

Be aware that the 'ring is only open a few times a year, and dates can
get closed at short notice if a manufacturer or anyone with the
readies needs to use it at the last minute. Available dates won't be
published until Feb (aka when the snow starts to clear).

That said it's only 3 hours from Calais.

Best resource is Ben Lovejoy's site as mentioned earlier. Also the
    Ringers smartgroup.

    I believe the record is 7:49 (RC30, 1993)[1]

    Compare with:
Porsche Carrera GT - 7:32 (considered to be the production car record)
Radical - 7:19 (road legal but a trackday special in anyones book)
    Group C Porsche - 6:11 - (race car - Bellof at the wheel, 1983)

[1] C'mon Bear, you can have that....

I'm surprised it's not been beaten by more modern machinery. I don't
suppose the real top riders indulge in the Ring, but surely a good amateur
    has been tempted.

With the iffy surface, distance and varied conditions a road racer might
have a good crack at it: someone who's raced on the Island, perhaps.
