SteveH emerged from their own little world to say
Given a dozen or so laps I'd be confident that she would get her time
down significantly. Enough to make JC look pedestrian. With just one lap
she would have to drive conservatively to ensure completing it; she did
not have the option to explore the ultimate levels of grip. [1]

I think your assertion that "a good driver will be able to car hop and
be more or less on the pace within a handful of corners" is bollocks.

[1] this assumes that the reportage was accurate i.e. she had no
    practice laps.

As a non-motorist, with no aspirations in that direction[1], I must
    agree.

Some of the content *must* be arrived at after a long session in a
    pub.

One thing I *would* be interested in, is how fast can a modern bike
    get round their track.

On that note, how much of Rossi's move to Yamaha was motivated by
    Biaggi getting a Honda?

Old Ewan and Charlie had more fun tonight, I see. Bloody BMWs snapping
their frames all over the shop.

[1] Unless young Hammomd wants rid of that Charger, that is.
<imagines roling up at the test centre in it> :)

And it's not as if they've been dropping them on a regular basis or
anything, is it. Or overloading the rear of the bike with christ
knows how much luggage. Or riding the kind of trails that barely
deserve to be described as "terrain", let alone roads.

They use creative editing to give the impression that it's him
four-wheeling drifting around the TG test track. It isn't.

Whether you class it as a "modern superbike" is another thing but the K1200S
went round in 7 min 57 sec. Have a look at www.facethepower.com

That's dreadful, even Richard Whiteley got a Suzuki Liana round in 2
    min 4 sec.

'Their track' being the top gear test track, not the Nurburgring....

    So less, I'd hope..

Well, he affects a hatred of bikes, and manages to get some of us
wound up by writing articles in the papers about our doubtful
sexuality and the like. What he really thinks is less clear. And he
seems to get on well enough with the other chap on Top Gear who rides
    bikes.

I don't doubt. By "passably well", I meant "better than 99% of
    'ordinary' drivers".

Chaps. Plural. Both of them ride.

I note in his self-commentary he referred to someone on a bike as a
"homotorcyclist". It's such an obvious wind-up I suspect it's almost
    entirely done for comic effect.
both the "other chap"s on Top Gear ride bikes. "Little" Richard Hammond
actually has an R1150GS (and a sportsbike of some description).

And even if it isn't, who cares? It doesn't make him any less
entertaining, and if a comedic newspaper article is enough to make
someone get upset about their sexuality, I'd suggest they have bigger
issues than Clarkson to think about.

So that's settled it then - he's having a laugh, and if anyone has an
issue with him they should keep it to themselves.

    Right, now, where were we?

That bit with the 180 degree corner (cauldron?) looked like it would be a
complete nightmare on a bike, at least from a road surface point of view.
