79’ XL500S

    Anyone familiar with the electrical system? Cant be that much
    different than on most bikes, but when I hook the battery up, the
    ground wire short circuits the wiring, and starts melting it. Any
    clues as to what my prob could be? The ignition switch, in the on
    position, causes complete conitinuity between the + and - circuits.
    Why? Any help would be appreciated!!
