64 in a 60 zone

  1. Would there be any difference if you were running a different profile tyre,
    or if your tyres are worn. That would make your speedo read differently
    wouldn't it?

  2. Yes, but...

    Typical tires (well, the front tire on my bike) are somthing like 120/70
    17s, so the wheel has a radius of something like:

    (0.7*120)+(0.5*17*25.4) =~ 300mm
    (profile time width in mm + half wheel diameter converted from inches)

    So even if you get a 6mm difference between a brand new and a fully worn
    tread depth (which I think is a high side estimate), you're still only
    talking about a 2% difference. Not quite enough to convince a judge you
    didn't know you were actually speeding, I suspect...
