And 8 1/2 months, that's how long it's taken to empty the Scottoiler
touring resevoir, and I still haven't needed to adjust the chain in all
    that time.

    Scottoilers rock.

5000 miles since June on the Sprint - one partial refill and a very minor
    chain adjustment yesterday.

I must have mine set too high as I get 300 miles before I need to
refill. But I have 14K miles on the chain and it still looks new.

I'll be switching to chainsaw bar oil on the next refill.
    That they do.

Wouldn't they work better if they remained still?

Sounds way to high to me. Assuming you don't have the touring reservoir
addition you should be getting something approaching 1000 miles between
refills. Have you set it to give 1 to 2 drops per minute at tickover?

Bearing in mind your location, you might want to consider an oil with a
higher viscoscity, unless of course they offer chainsaw oil in different
    grades for when it's scorcio.

It's just the scottoiler, no touring thingy. I think so, I guess I
should go time it again and see what it's really doing.

Only one grade as far as I know.

Hmm, I'm considering one atm, as I tend to abuse the chain on my bike.
It's really a case of the round tuit. I haven't got one.

From Wessies post I'm assuming you are in a hotter part of the world than
dear old Blighty so are you using the red Scottoil?

I was wondering that. I've got a Touring Scottoiler fitted to the new
Bandit, which is now coming up for 2000 miles. The level appears to
have barely dropped, although I've only got it set on 1 at the moment.
I guess as the roads get wetter, I'll need to up the rate a little.

I may even fit one to my GSXR when it comes off SORN next year, as I'm
    completely crap at oiling chains.

I think the wear rate on chains is also related to the offset between
swinging arm pivot and output shaft. Some are set up to give the chain an
easy run as the suspension moves and some really lash the thing about.

It's not so much wear that I'm concerned about, it's have some oil on
the chain at all. I'm not kidding when I say I'm crap at doing them.
I think I've done the GSXR 3 times since I bought it, and it's now 17
months old and on 8k miles.

I need to think up a nice tidy way to route the pipe along my swing arm.
I like the Lozzoesque 'p' clip method but not sure I want to drill my
swing arm while I'm still in warranty....
