I rode Jeremy's on the French Run. I was impressed by just how much mid-range it had, and it pulled easily up to an indicated 130. I can see it might gasp a little two up. But overall, a bloody impressive all-rounder. Not that I'd buy one, mind.
I've had mine show an alleged indicated 140, the once, with my portly frame (1) bent as tightly as possible, over the tank... and it was still gathering a little speed, but I had to back off. For what they are, aye. (1) All 18 stone of it.
Troo. I was caught out yesterday, wondering why the Wing wouldn't accelerate out of a bend. Then I looked at the tacho. Stuck against the limiter in third. I was very conscious of holding folk up, as I was riding point. So, I was playing with the wiggly lever thing down by my left boot [1]. I don't think it was going into top unless we hit 80, which, on some of the roads we went down, was a challenge, two-up. Still, the Wing doesn't look as scary going round bends as does the Blingmobile, according to Monz, who was riding a travelling marshall. I like Niall's comment on the Blingmobile: "I can't believe how something that big and heavy can shake so much...."
Oh I don't know, sitting just below 6K on the CBR600RR3 (which is were the second set of injectors kicks in) isn't particularly wearing. Haven't really tried hanging round at higher revs because the noise (probably from the RAM air ) makes it uncomfortable. Am I agreeing with you there ? Haven't really felt it necessary to stay at higher res because the difference is reached so quickly and the power delivery is so linear. Had a bit of fun with a 9R the other day, obviously a Sunday rider otherwise I wouldn't have been able to catch up. Biggest laugh was when he noticed and tried to pull away. Frightening part was when we were peeling off to go our different ways and I pulled up next to him and noticed he was in trainers and puffy jacket. One of my friends has a theory that 600s are the ultimate sports bike because all the power is usable. Whereas with litre bikes you're either blowing the clutch or trying to control wheelies and wheelspin.

I can't speak for the RR3, but certainly the F-Sport only really came on the power after 8k. Pottering below that it was certainly less wearing but it didn't have the bollocks to enable you to make smooth, easy overtakes without having to drop it down a couple of gears. Perhaps they've improved it on the later model. it was certainly less than linear on the Sport. It was choked around 5k because of the noise emission regs but this was sorted to a degree by fitting an Akrapovic can which smoothed out the mid-range nicely. He rides a 600 I take it? I don't have any problems with either of those on the 9R. Lovely tractable bike with very usable power and just a little bit extra if you need it. But then, I am a gurl -- Elly - a tired Pixie ZX9R-E1 - <Giggles> Spike - FZ400 - It's dead Jim! Errm I've owned a Bandit 12 (got rid of it 2 weeks ago) and have ground the pegs and other metal bits away considerably (and the centre stand before I took it off) and I'm definitely way quicker on a 600 than on it. Ground clearance makes a bloody big difference for a start - you can't lean the bugger over very far before it pretends to be a machinery shop. Yes the huge waves of torque mean you don't change gears a whole lot, so a less skilled rider has less to think about, but a modern 600 has about 15 degrees more lean angle (1). The porky 240 odd Kgs don't exactly make it terribly quick through a tight road either. Jack the bugger up at the back an inch or three and you may have a point, but not stock. Bloody good two up touring bike though, which is what I bought it for. JL (1) I may be exaggerating slightly
Which is of course why everyone should have at least 4 different bikes in the stable Not to mention not highsiding <wink> JL
He's talking bollocks with a grain of truth in it. Mind you, I've never met anyone who could use a modern litre-bike absolutely 100% on a public road, with the exception of a flat-out straight-line blast here and there. Doesn't stop them from being fun, and incredibly easy to ride under most circumstances. <fx: thinks of Zymurgy's 12R. <fx: grins> I meant to take it just to the next autoroute exit, come off, and return. Unfortunately, as I approached, I realised I was going too fecking fast to be able to slow down and cross three lanes of traffic in time. So I nailed it onto the next junction instead ))
I was specifically addressing my comment to Muck, in comparison with his Bandit 600. You may be referring to a sports 600 and you may well be right about the ground clearance. However, I'm no riding god and I had no difficulty in keeping up with people on sports 600s down the twisties - people who know how to ride one, too. I never ground lumps out of it - I may have touched a peg down once or twice and my boots were a bit chamfered but it never ground hard. Admittedly I had jacked the rear up an inch or so, but the only time the centre stand and collector touched down was two-up, which kind of negates your next point too. My SO didn't like the pillion position, although she did like 4500rpm for some reason ... I obviously don't lean bikes far enough.
Errk ! Ya bugger ! Yeah OK you got me there. I meant the type of 600's under duscussion - ie Supersports 600s of relatively modern DNA like an R6 or a post y2K gsxr600 etc I've never actually ridden the Bindit 6, I suspect it's more of the same but a bit lighter and less power ? Obviously not going to be any quicker on the same bike with less power, no. JL
