It is nowhere near boiling. It has a long way to go before the coolant will
    boil in a pressurised system.
That's cos there is nothing wrong with an engine at that temp.

Depends on the position of the radiator. Cold coolant will drop, hot will
rise..... Not moot in my books.

Yeah, but as far as I recall, all of those motors were sidevalves, and the
radiator header tank was above the highest point of the engine. As this is
not the case with most modern engines, thermo-syphon doesn't work very well
    on them.

Checked the manual and says the fan should come on at around 98 - 102'
(thats almost a 10' difference to 110' at which it is coming on..). I will
clean the radiator and replace the coolant in the meanwhile but may have to
get that checked or maybe try fix it myself.

    Thanks

No it's not the ultimate cooling aid but it still transfers heat to some
degree ( more than you realise hence heat soak), on modern cars the best
thing is open the bonnet and let the heat out , on this bike I cant be
sure but surely running cooling air over the radiator has to help ?
I would be thinking adding a bigarse fan remotely switched from an E
series foulcan would be a good start short of replacing the radiator ?

  9. You don't need electronics for that, just a constant 12v at the
temperature switch for the fans. I also find it hard to believe
manufacturers don't do this, considering Kawasaki managed to do it on my
    1990 model bike.

    Regards, Andrew.

Yeah, if it's been designed for it that is. Remember the pump will restrict
the flow somewhat. Hmm, time to crank up that CFD program.

It's a pain in the arse when you've got a flat battery and you just stop
for a moment at the shop on the way home... knowing you've got JUST ENOUGH
charge for one-start... and as you walk away you hear the fan cut in!

[Wistful sigh] When she was 10 she WAS a fan Nick. Her eyes used to shine
    with admiration......
Now she takes visitors outside so they don't have to see me.

    That's fatherhood.
