6 countries in a day - tomorrow

A while ago I asked myself how many countries could be done easily in one
day starting from the UK (excluding separate countries within the UK).
The answer turned out to be 6 and it seemed like a good idea to give it a
    go.

    UK->France->Belgium->Netherlands->Germany->Luxembourg

It's only about 300 miles from Calais to the hotel in Luxembourg so it
should be a fairly easy run.

Of course it would be possible to do more countries in a single day but I
reckon that would require some serious mileage. (This may be a future
    project).

The weather forecast is OK so I'm looking forward to it. Helen is coming
along as pillion and BiL and his girlfriend/partner are also coming on
their own bikes. Neither of them have ridden outside the UK before so it
will be quite an adventure for them.

The down side is the getting up at 5am...

I did Belgium->Germany->Luxembourg->Belgium->France->UK on the way back
from visiting Higgins last year. It wasn't exactly a challenge. Nor was
it really planned, as the route may suggest. Working NL into that list
    would have been fairly trivial.

Have fun. I spent a day bimbling around the Lux Ardennes last year. It is
really rather nice and deserves a long weekend by itself.

I've done about 40 countries in 20 hours before.

Ok, I was in a 767 above them...

The ride itself isn't much of a challenge. The challenge was working out
the fastest/best route that would cover all 6.

Yep, pretty much - via Ghent and Antwerp, avoiding Brussels. However, it
was a close call between that route and going south though Maastricht and
then simply deviating east briefly en route to Luxembourg to take in a
small part of Germany. The latter is shorter but probably marginally
    slower.

    I did Italy->Vatican City->San
    Marino->Switzerland->Liechtenstein->Austria->Germany->Luxembourg->Belgiu
m->Netherlands->France->England on the Versys in three days last
summer, after getting off the boat from Malta via Sicily.

We'll be doing something similar on the way back from San Marino in
    September.

Not looking forward to the two-day slog from Calais to Rimini on the
way down but at least it'll be more comfortable than the ride from
    Hook of Holland to Brno.

Our route from Brussels to Calais was Brussels - Spa - Bitburg -
Luxembourg - Brussels - Calais. Not exactly the direct route but
entirely in keeping with the trip as a whole.

Two days is pushing it for that, but from Milan to Rimini is a
virtually dead straight autostrada that makes the journey much faster.
On the way there I stopped at Dijon on the first night, then Milan the
next and finally an overnight in Rome followed by the best part of a
day sightseeing before a quick ride to Civitavecchia to catch the ferry
    later that night.

    faster.

Day one is Calais to the foot of Mont Blanc, day two sees us through
the tunnel and in Riccione in time for afternoon tea.

The tricky bit will be finding somewhere to park - I have a feeling
the town will be a bit busy that weekend.

Still, it should be worth it.

Hmm, brings back memories of thinking about such a project myself
about a decade ago. I think I came up with:
UK->France->Ned->Belge->Lux->Ger->CH->Liechtenstein->Aut and with a bit of luck
over the Bremner Pass into Italy. Not necessarily in that exact order.
Since it used to take me eight hours to ride back to Switzerland from a
Channel port, the extra three countries would push it out another few hours,
so maybe 15 hours including getting to the ferry and the crossing itself.

I knew it without looking it up. It's near where you turn left to take the
Petit St Bernard pass instead of the tunnel. WPS, you see.
