Something like a Fazer/Bandit/Hornet[1] etc. No sports bikes, cruisers,
trailies, quads, trikes, or anything else that doesn't have similar
ergos to those I mentioned. No 'projects' either, must be running &
    reliable. Max budget 1500 quid[1].

Ideally not a million miles from Swindon or Aylesbury.

It's for L to get a few miles under her belt[2] before buying something
nicer[3] in the next couple of years.

    [1] I did say 'like'.
[2] Assuming she passes her test in a couple of weeks.
    [3] Probably a Street Triple[4].
[4] Paging TOG - if you're not taking yours across the pond, can we
have first refusal if the timing's right.

Are they? I've not even looked at used ones. You just sprang to mind
    for obvious reasons.

How about a very nice GS500K2 in bloo, only 4k miles, near WSM.

Perfect starter bike. Similar did Blondie very nicely. But TBF she liked her
SV650 a lot more. I think the unfaired higher bar version is probably nicer
for a newbie, wiv some crash bungs. Less to damage/scrape.

If it needs to be restricted? Suzuki may sell 33bhp carb slides. They do for
the GS500. £18 each. That and the receipts are all you need.

There is one rather near you

I've always thought the riding position on SVs was a bit more sporty,
even the naked ones, but I've never sat on an un-faired version.
Ta, might be worth a look.

The unfaired bike has a riding position similar to the GS500, upright and
relaxed. The pegs are a little higher. Not flat bars, maybe a 2 inch raise.
The SV is 5-10kg lighter than the GS500E

Yebbut you are a REALLY shortarse.
Best come and take a look and let the lady sit on it.
The engine bars will need to be fitted for a first timer, I need to buy
two bolts and a round tuit.

If I was looking for a bike of this type I'd go for the SV every day of
the week - I certainly wouldn't touch a GS500, and Pip will tell you
why too. Fucking horrible bags of shite, as we found out with the two
that landed at our gaff a while ago.

As CRN doesn't GAF about some the other eejits in here why keep on with
these witty replies anyway. Live with him or KF him but the endless negative
stuff is a bit wearing. Non?

Hang fire a while, Nick's SV is looking on the probable side of
possible. I should know after next weekend for certain.

I'm with you on this. He isn't offensive and he isn't a troll. I couldn't
care less if I don't agree with some of his opinions. He doesn't deserve
the level of hostility that is directed towards him - and its all too
    boringly predictable.
