Discussion in 'Bay Area Bikers' started by Blazing Laser, Apr 28, 2004.

  1. Someone here will be able to answer this.

What is involved in registering a used bike imported from out of
    state?

  2. How many miles on it?

CA exhaust or a 49 state model?

Show it to a DMV inspector for recording the VIN and engine number.
Pay the use tax if it has less than 10k miles on it.
    Pay other various fees.

Pretty simple, really. Not even as difficult as a car, which
    isn't very hard.

depends on which DMV you go to, but most of them understand the law, and
hate you just for being alive.

You have to show 7500 on the odometer, or bike be older than 30 years, or
have california emissions sticker (from manufacturer)

Hint Hint. Buy used speedo off eBay that has 7500, or used, hook to
electric drill, run it up to past 7500. if you do not already have
    7500

they will want to inspect the bike, which consistsw of making sure the
motor and frame numbers are somewhat close to what the title says.

you cannot pay any tax or fee to make it exempt, I know, I tried.

they are hardcore ball busting bastards about this. 7500 miles is the
    KEY.
