i'm looking around for a first bike in the used bike market and i need
something which i can ride comfortably as i'm only 5'5/5'6 tall. i
feel a lot safer on a bike if i can touch the floor easily.

so far i've only sat on a gsx r600 which was just about ok but i
couldnt get both feet flat. i've heard a honda vfr 400 is a good
option so looking at these. just wondered if anybody here can suggest
    some other possibilities???

i tend to like the sports looking bikes such as those mentioned about
but will consider other types as well.

    thanks in advance!

In fact, go for the 1100, you'll pay nowt for insurance & it's still as fast
as many bikes. Very low seat, but comfy & bloody quick.

  4. Agree with that the CBR400, due to the shape of the seat , gives almost
anyone , and I am only 5ft 1 a chance to put both feet down . if fact I
think I might get another one :)

In the true UKRM tradition :- GS500.
Not sporty but a solid reliable cheap commuter, good for around 115mph
and 60+ mpg if not thrashed.

    :

Honda Hornet - it's 600cc but should not be any more expensive to insure
    than a CBR400.

Not a sports bike but the engine is derived from the CBR600 so it is great
fun to ride if you rev the tits off it.

    Don't be such a poof. I know a 5'1" girl who rides a Tiger, & can only
get one set of toes on the ground. Even then she has to slide her arse
    off the seat.

You don't need to get both feet flat. So long as you can get one foot
flat and the toes of the other foot down, or the balls of both feet
down, you'll be right as rain.

If you must have something so small, most 400s were quite low. Not bad
    as first proper bikes, either.

Even if you can touch the floor easily don't be complacent. Even 400s
    are heavy.
They are and I'll be selling mine at some point, the MOT has just run
out and I need to be riding again before I can take it for another
    one.
    ZXR400. I won't be selling mine.

I'm 5 foot 3 inch, can flat foot one side and toe touch the other
which is all you need. It's fast, it loves corners and it makes a
    great continental touring machine.
Someone will have mentioned the CBR, Hornet etc.

Googling 'bikes for short people' or 'bikes for short women' brings up
    loads of options.

It was bought off a mate of the boy's as he needed the cash.

The plan is to fettle it and move it on, although the boy now seems to
have taken a shine to it.

I found it a nasty cramped buzzy little thing.
