40 lashes for a teddy bear

  1. Although I can see your point about the misguided intentions of this
woman. It now appears she was set up by a fellow employee national who
didn't like her. Harking back to the English middle ages and calling
some one you didn't like a witch. Effectual amongst the uneducated,
superstitious and easily led. With regard to 'aid', the following
springs to mind from something I read written by an aid worker in
Africa. I wonder if it applies here.

"Charitable foreign aid, is poor people in rich countries giving money
that ends up in the pockets of rich people in poor countries."

    In communiqué <>,
I was wondering myself about her motivation for being there. If it is
purely altruistic, she is just stupid. If there was some hidden
proselytising agenda would that be relevant?

  3. Heh. Agreed. I cannot understand why the smellies get sop uptight and
start waving hatchets because of a bloody teddy bear.

Sort of confirms my belief that religion is as much of a force for evil
    as it is for good.

Different standards, cultures, etc, etc. I know Saudis that think that
Europe is full of wimps, because we don't chop hands off or carry out
    capital punishment.

Blaney's right. She broke the law, she deals with it. Tough shit. As it
goes, she got off very lightly.

It doesn't appear to be an explicit law, though, does it? Seems to me
like it's all in the interpretation. I'm more certain than ever that
Islam and Western culture are irreconcilably incompatible.

Freely admitted. What I do know scares me. I believe that in its
truest interpretation, Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance and
understanding - like all faiths of which I am aware. However, very
few seem to be practicing these tenets, and there is no obvious way to
bring the fundamentalists to a reasonable state of mind, so I take a
defensive stance. Either we all agree to live and let live (and that
must be all, it won't work unilaterally), or it develops into a
    them-or-us situation.

    DR, Dec 1, 2007
  13. Personally I am well beyond the live and let live agreement and
tolerance for lunatics and fascists stage in my personal philosophical
development programme and feel that a them or us confrontation is the
perfect opportunity to rid the world once and for all of them and just
    leave us.

It's utterly amazing to see Blaney's frequent (and deliberately 'sinister')
references to his 'wide knowledge' of the Middle East question .. which,
well ... curiously, never get expanded upon.

'course he could tell us. But then he'd have to kill us.

Do not be fooled by Blaney. His knowledge is a mile wide and an inch deep
and is tainted by his hatred of Jews.
'The Day of Resurrection will not arrive until you make war on the
Jews, until a Jew will hide behind a rock or tree, and the rock or tree
will say: "Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, here is a Jew behind me, kill
    him!"'

'Allah, strengthen us! Show us your power on them! Allah, take the
    Jews!!'

'All of the agreements entered into [with Israel] are temporary, until
the decree comes from Allah and until the destiny from Allah is
    realized'

'The Muslims and Arabs must stand behind the Palestinian nation, which
is the vanguard in the war against Allah's enemies. By the living
Allah, the Jews are Islam's enemies in this life time'

'... aim a rifle at the first and last enemy of the Islamic nation, and
that is the sons of monkeys and pigs, the Jews'

  19. And there's more than a grain of truth in this, as well.

However, the embezzlement of aid is, I'd venture to say, a worse issue.
