We appear to be moving into a new era of Christian/Muslim/Jew war. Who could
    have foretold that in 1980.

A lot went for economic or political reasons too - starting a new life,
chance to get a large plot of land, fleeing the hangman etc etc.

Why not? Do you think the French police are any less racist or violent
    than the police elsewhere?

Actually it wasn't quite like that. During Henry 8th's time, and in
the century or so that followed, the acceptable, established, religion
changed so frequently you could be completely orthodox one day and
burned as a heretic the next. Many new 'cults' sprang up (Lutherists,
Anabaptists etc.) and the basic 'Reformists' that had given rise to
the split from Rome often found themselves herded along with these
into ever-increasing puritanism and therefore dangerously close to
    heresy.

So to some extent they were in fact 'presecuted', although on the
other hand they were often only perecuted due to their habit of
calling everyone else heretical sinners who would surely burn in hell.

So six of one, half a dozen of the other, really.

No. I said I don't _assume_. I wait for the facts to become available.
In this case, they now have been confirmed: the toerags on the bikes were
    in the wrong.

    Rumours of War.
    Rumours of War.

I see that your dress is torn at the edge,
you were lost, intense, like a man on a ledge, waiting to jump
as the waves break over the shore.

You say there's a storm that can't be delayed,
and lately it seems to be comin' this way, you can hear it break
like the slam of a door.

    Rumours of War.
    Rumours of War.

You tell me, "Just look all around
at the past and the present,
at the cross and the crescent
The signs and the planets are lining up like before."

    Rumours of War."

A 1984 track, but spookily prescient, especially that last stanza.

I see she's now been found guilty and sentenced to prison.

The obvious conclusion is that - for their own protection, and to
prevent possible offence - all Western workers should immediately
withdraw from the festering shithole^W^W country.

Then the residents can enjoy their religion in peace, insh'Allah.

    Everyone's happy.

    Right?

But there are much more important issues at hand. Such as insulting The

It's all a matter of priorities.

  14. I still correspond with a mate I used to work with; he's from Arkansas,
and he returned home to make a life for his family after he got married,
reasoning that the lack of crime and drugs (compared to Ca. and NYC) was
a good thing. The situation there is that god-bothering pressure groups
have put forward a lot of local legislature candidates, and picked up a
number of seats, due mostly to the fact that the candidates are
surreptitiously endorsed by clergy, on the basis that "I want all of you
(the congregation) to vote your conscience this time ... ask yourself if
the candidate you want to vote for supports christian values", in total
contravention of the "separation of church and State" thing the septics
are generally so mad keen on ...

Last I heard he was taking a job somewhere out in Ca., and getting his
family out; "the threat of being shot or educating my kids about drugs I
think I can handle ... the creeping death of young minds I can't. One
man can stand against a gun or a drug dealer, but against several
million brainwashed fools, you don't stand a fucking chance".

Given that he used to be about as pro-Arkansas as one can possibly
imagine, I think it must have become pretty bad for him to consider
    moving.[/QUOTE]

I see the Sudanese are now protesting in the streets at her "lenient"
sentence, calling for her to be executed:

"Marchers chanted "Shame, shame on the UK", "No tolerance - execution"
and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad"."

Not at all. Think about it: every time they do this, the world gets to see
the true nature of Islam, and the falsehood of those who claim it is a
    'religion of peace'.

Awesome own-goals are what I call it.

"Between 1998 and 2001 DFID committed over £40 million for
humanitarian aid such as food and nutritional programmes, seeds and
tools, water and emergency health interventions"

And that's just UK government money - from that page, they received a
total of over 12 million in 2003 alone.

  20. Reminds me of a photo in one of the papers about a conflict in the horn
of Africa and no I don't remember which. Where the idiots who claimed to
be Islamic were burning small flags of the 'Stars and Stripes' and
waving anti US banners. They had cut out the flags from bags of rice
provided as aid from the US.
