(supported by three independent witnesses so far), that two boys were
riding an illegal bike, that neither was wearing a helmet, that they ran a
red light and crashed into a police car. It's regrettable like I say, but
that's all. If a white middle-class boy from Paris's VII arrondissement
had died, it'd get a paragraph at the bottom of page six in the papers.
That they're black or Arab and that they lived in the suburbs means that
it's taken as an excuse to riot, to use firearms against police, and to
burn cars and official buildings.

The reason violence breaks out under the circumstances is that the
police do mistreat Arabs and French people of French descent. When
you hear that two people have died in an encounter with the police,
you assume that the police are likely to be at fault.

in knowing what was racist about my statement. Mentioning Arabs? The
majority of the rioters _are_ Muslims of North-African origin.

I don't recall you suggesting that as a solution for any other
disturbance in France. In other posts, you gave it as your view that
Arabic sounds `reptilian' and that the Arabs in France make you feel
invaded.

 

If not fair, it's at least reasonable.
