Co. Durham Chief of Police. Refuses to install speed cameras. Insists they
have no effect on accident stats. What a great guy.

Yebbut if they're gonna allow council officials to brandish speed guns
its getting more and more likely that they'll catch you out. Having said
that as I visited Liverpool last Saturday I can honestly say I'll not be
doing that again if I can help it ... jeepers that place gets more and
more run down every time I see it!

Perhaps if you'd let some of us know we could've taken you away from the
slummy areas. FFS, even parts of Bootle have improved.

    What YTC said.

Council officials will be out and about, with speed guns or not, in the
built up bits of the Council's domain. In all probability where the
local residents are complaining they're being used as a rat run. To have
the wardens conducting speed checks is a visible community policing,
"we're doing something", makes money and is cheaper than speed humps.

In the city environs, to be honest, you'd be a prize **** to be speeding.

Out and about in the countryside of the NW is another matter..

Well, as I said, don't be silly, especially in town. Exceeding 35 in a 30
is asking for a deserved pull.
As Dangerscouse pointed out some bits are worse than others. The centre is
ok, but the run ins are pretty bad, they ned to do a lot of knocking down
    and building up by 2008.

    fingered:

... but I was in the city centre Xmas shopping which I sort of
    expected to be "reasonable" ...

Ridiculous, riding something like the Gixxer below 50 is all but impossible.

I can't remember the last time I was in the city centre. If I want to
do shopping I tend to go to Southport really.

Unless I need something for decorating in which case it's a visit to
    Rapid.
