33bhp restriction question

    You should have had a go on the GFR. Another time perhaps. The
    electronic power valve is fairly binary in operation. The answer is
    naturally to keep it open at all times when not stationary. This is more
    easily achieved on a race circuit than the high street, which might make
    it not ideal for a learner.

    The RGV had a two-stage valve, which effectively meant ****-all below
    8k, a child's impression of midrange til 10k and then it all went silly
    for 1500rpm before running out of puff.

    The only way to ride it was keep it pinned while working the gearbox to
    keep the revs between 10k and 11500. Hilarious and devastatingly
    effective when done well.

    It happens all the time with uninsured cars. They seize it, & charge
    you for storage until someone with insurance comes to collect it. If
    it's a worthless piece of shit you can sign it over to them & they
    crush it instead.

    Not quite and not that it makes a shit load of difference, but the lower
    limit for a DAS is 46bhp, not 33. (give or take a single BHP). It's probably
    why the training centres are full of 600 Bandits and ER-5's.

    Speaking of wobbly death traps - my first bike was a Honda 50, and I
    was 6'5" and 175lbs. Scary top heavy. The Beezer 650 I got next was
    _much_ easier to manage.

    Try comparing a restricted learner TZR with a CG125, both with 12hp.
    I reckon it would be a close thing.

    First you'd have to find a CG125 that makes 12bhp, which would be quite
    an achievement.

    My TZR, when restricted, would just about crack 70mph and was quite
    tractable at the bottom end. Perfectly quick enough to get me in trouble
    as a new rider fresh from a moped. Decent disc brakes front and rear, a
    nice stiff chassis and a fairing to keep the wind off.

    None of which, except maybe for the front disc on late models, applies
    to the CG125.

    I fail to see why anyone that could, wouldn't take the DAS on a gixxer thou,
    or at the very least a ZZR1100.

    You are the registered keeper of the vehicle. Who owns it is a very
    interesting question.

    They have had a lot of success using the crushing of cars in Suffolk
    apparently. It seemed to be quite effective at keeping the chavs under
    some kind of control as opposed to them doing donuts on the High St
    outside the chippy.

    I can see the ER-5, but fail to see the connection between 46bhp and
    the Bandit 600.

    It's got more than 46bhp, so it qualifies as a bike that can used to take a
    DAS course/test.

    The DAS has to be taken on a bike with a *minimum* 46bhp. I'm not sure of
    there's a maximum though.
