250 Rego Costs

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by James Mayfield, Feb 11, 2004.

  1. Gee, I'd forgotten how cheap it was to re-register a 250.

For the GPX, in NSW, based on a rider under 25.

    Pink Slip: $16:60
    Green Slip: $256:30
    Registration: $91:00
    Total: $363:90

Bargain. (Well, considering I was expecting around $750.)

My XT250 was a bit cheaper than that.

    Pink Slip $16.60
Green Slip $170 (aprox) un-licenced, 25 years old @ NRMA
    Rego $89
    total = $275.60

Is that what it costs for bigger bikes (~$750) ?

would the bigger a bike generally mean higher cost ?

...as I am currently looking at either the CBR 600f4i or CBR954. Prices seem
similar so I am trying to find any negatives to going for the 954..

    In NSW, there are 3 rego bands - under 100cc, 101-254, 254+

    (not sure if it's 100 or 102....)

some other states have a break at 600cc as well.

Bigger bikes can get through tyres and chains faster, and if you buy it
on the drip instead of for cash or a personal loan, then you will have
to comprehensively insure it. Insurance does depend on capacity.

  7. From memory (and this is memory only) there are 3 capacity groups (with
    different prices) in NSW.

Up to 100cc up to 300cc, and over 300cc. (Not sure if those are right
though. I'm sure someone will correct me.)

    Thanks..

I'd be paying cash and probably not getting anymore than third party
property as being under 25, insurance is way too expensive anyways.

What bike are you coming off? I bought a CBR954 late last year and it's
quite a bit of bike. I had previously been through three ZX6R's (as in
bought and sold, not crashed) before I stepped up to the litre bike. Depends
on your skills and how silly u are feeling. If you can ride the tits of a
600, then go for the 954, if you can't utilise a 600, then perhaps not go up
to a 954 quite yet. All depends, meh, get whatever u like :p

    :)

I'm only coming off a CBR250RR.. To be honest I really don't need the power
a litre bike has, for that matter I doubt I'll even use the full potential
of the 600 - well in the beginning at least. Its just that the 954's atm are
actually cheaper than the f4i (new at least - something about being on
*sale*). I'm definitely not *silly* when it comes to bikes and fully respect
them so I cant see any negatives in getting the higher capacity bike then.

I was quoted $15,000 for the 954 compared to little over $16k for the
f4i's - that's new though and from Syd City. I'm going to be spending around
$10k on a bike and through private sale.

last time I went past westerns Penrith they still had F4i painted on the
    window for $11999 + ORC

$10K should be just about able to take your pick of the 600's with under 10K
    on the clock

And some people reckon a bike's worn out and they haven't even had it
    for 10 years!

Check this, though. If it's not a missile-with-wheels,
comprehensive may not be all that much more. Also, note
that 3rd party + theft doesn't generally cover fire.

3rd party and theft is these days pretty mich the same as fully comp due
to scumbags deciding their trashed bike was 'stolen".

3rd party only is still fairly cheap.

the 954 might be cheaper by a bit, but be very sure your eyes aren't
bigger than your stomach. You might *think* you can handle it, but
without riding one, are you sure?

Are you riding the wheels off the 250 now? If you take it on a track
    day, how untouchable are you?

I probably wouldn't even get theft. The area I live in is very safe and the bike is kept at the back of my house behind a large gate
and cant be seen from the street. Also a dead end street. I also never leave the bike alone (when either not at home or at uni) for
    more than 20mins or so..
As mentioned in my post below, I truly don't need the extra power and will definitely not use it especially with the riding (mainly
city streets) I do. Maybe I don't know what I am talking about but I mean sure it might have all that extra power but surely you
need to actually move the throttle to use it ? I have booked in to test ride the two bikes side by side and will hopefully get a
better comparison of the two then. I just don't see any cons to getting the bigger bike if there will be no difference in costs (ok
maybe maintenance as in tyres and that but again for the riding I do that will be negligible - on my 250 I only did 5,000k's in 1.5
    years).

Generally how much is ORC ?

I definitely want an f4i if I get a 600 (ie. not f3 or anything earlier) so that limits it to 2001+ and I am pretty fussy with the
colours. So far looking in the trading post and bike sales websites it hasn't been all that easy to find a decent one that I like
for that price although I have only been looking for the last 2 and a half weeks.
