It would probably be more appropriate to check the spec of castrol against
that of the oil they sell for £2.50/gallon in the supermarket.

Either that or the Halfords oil is much better than I believed and held up
engines that were more knackered than I thought.

For not using an oil that experience has shown its performance falls well
short of its price tag? - well I suppose your free to hold your own opinion.

Lets hope you're still laughing when your engine starts rattling.

  9. Jesus. How do you know it was the oil that was at fault, fuckwit?

Because I stopped using that brand and by some really weird unexplainable
coincidence stopped having problems at that very same time.

I bought castrol because I expected a trusted high price oil to provide the
protection needed for worn engines - it didn't, while a cheap stores own
    brand performed much better.

If you think castrol is so wonderful, no-one is stopping you from using it.
You are entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine and you becoming
abusive because you don't agree with my opinion just shows what an ignorant
    person you are.

  11. I must say that my experience (here in the states) differs wildly from
yours. I have been using Castrol oil (real, not synthetic) exclusively
in every single engine I have owned since 1961. Many motorcycles; many
cars. None have ever had an engine failure.

If you'd bothered to read the thread from the start instead of looking for
any convenient flame war to join in you would know that I said the engine
had worked fine on Halfords own oil for about 2 years (not even any rattles)
I only bought castrol on that occasion because it was on special offer and
from that point engine wear became excessive after only a further 600 miles.
You really didn't bother to read the thread did you!!!
    You mean bigger than you?!

  14. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, you are so stupid that I'm surprised you can
even manage to use a keyboard.

The engine was knackered. It got to the point of terminal knackeredness.
It would have done this irrespective of whether you'd filled it with
Halfords oil Castrol oil, the very finest NASA-approved synthetic
wonder oil, or simply pissed into the sump.

I have repeatedly stressed that this involves old worn engines and made the
observation that castrol did not provide the level of protection in this
circumstance that I expected from an oil at the high end of the price scale.

In my opinion (and experience) Halfords oil has consistently performed
    better in this regard.

Well, actually that's only *half* the reason why he's being abused.
The other factor is that TOG *enjoys* abusing people who steadfastly
hold to a viewpoint or expression of said viewpoint that gives TOG
    somebody to mess with.

Most people would probably take Ian's vague assertions that Castrol is
"bad" as his own viewpoint, say, "whatever", shrug their shoulders and
move on to something else that they found interesting.

But TOG has to start a flame war and make the thread go on for 80 or
90 messages, and then he'll remind his victim several months later of
    his "error".
