Can anyone give any info on the 2005 SV1000 (not S).

I'm just about to upgrade from the VTR250 (also, anyone think an
    upgrade to a 1000 from a 250 unwise??)

I had been waiting for a 2nd hand 900 monster to come up but they seem
rare as hens teeth at the moment here. Then I saw a the SV on the
street and was impressed. The price turns out to be pretty good too,
with the new bike warrantee etc...

    Cheers

    maybe.........

How long u been riding? Are you going to be able to improve on something
that will potentially scare the living shit out of you?

Did your instructors give u any advice about progressive size increase, as
    in crawl, walk, run?

Doesn't really matter though, does it.

I very much doubt anything said here would change someones mind on what they
    buy size-wise

and yeah, the silver one looks a bit girlie........

    I think it's a stupid idea!
I'd been licensed and riding for 10 years before I got a bike bigger than
500cc and over 25 years before I cracked 1000cc but others seem to pull it
off OK. (And some even claim that 1000s are inherently safer than smaller
    bikes)
Why ask though; you've already made up your mind haven't you?

Comments here need to have 'points'? Is this a new rule or something?

I'll award ck 2 points then.

I did my L's on a 750 4 in the days when if you had a full car licence you
    could ride anything you liked.
He has a a year or so to practice so if he takes it easy he should be OK.

I had an XT250 for a couple of years and then got a CB750F. It scared the
bejeesus outta me with its stonking 70 hp or so.....................

The jump from a VTR250 to an SV1000 is a pretty big step............but then
he can tell us all about it after he gets it.

I went from a GT250 X7 to the CB750 4 F2 Couldent tell you the hp to long
ago. compered to the 250 the 750 power was smoother from takeof. the 250
snaped in at higher revs but it keeped up with A9X's back then.

    I went from a 175 to a 350 to a Honda 750/4 but remember a Honda 750/4 had
    about 60hp, a SV1000 has about 130.

    I am now happy with a 60hp BMW R100GSPD.

Even if its brakes, chassis and suspension, if there was any sense in
    the world, wouldn't.

    I say, "Go nuts."

The SV's are great bikes and not really much of a handful but they do have
    the power to become one.

    Oggy Knobs are $130.

Well, in comparative terms, Boxie wouldn't be far off; any dyno on which
a 750 Four can lay down 60hp would also probably peg an SV1000 at 130...
