My Savage has a noise like a very fast rattle or vibration coming from
the gas tank area when the rpms get up near the next shift point. I can
make it go away completely by pressing down on the speedometer with my
hand. I plan on taking the gas tank off this weekend to have a look see
but I'm wondering if anyone has ever had this problem?

Ok, I have my speedo off the bike and on the workbench. In the tip by
Rex Elseworth, he says the dampers were the main problem. I'm not sure
what the dampers are. Are they the metal clamps that hold the speedo to
the instrument cluster housing? I think the springs he was referring to
are the ones on the mounting posts.

I took some pics of my speedo. I called one "SpeedoClamp". I think
that's the damper in the tip:

Can anyone confirm what the "dampers" are?
