I need help tracing a 2001 Caponord I just purchased from a US
government auction. The VIN is marked ZD4PS00001S100213 but this VIN is
invalid. The check digit (position #9) is incorrect and I think the
Caponord VIN's should begin with ZD4PSC, not ZD4PS0.
The VIN markings appear factory authentic. The VIN is peened into the
right side steering tube and also appears on an factory label on the
left side. Every VIN computer that has run the VIN returns it as
invalid. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to trace the bike?
If anyone knows this bike, please contact me.

This is the info I can confirm:
Bike was shipped via Air France Cargo from Nice,France to Phoenix,AZ.
It was siezed by US Customs upon arrival in Phoenix in December 2002.
    Milage=5603 kms.
There is a plate on the bike that is marked:
    Motosud, 34 Montpellier
    Plate#= 1495 NV12
    Rocca Motos Frejus 04 94 53 52 89

Marked on another plate on the frame is:
    e11*92/61*00031*
    TYPE PS VARIANT-VERSION 000

    Motor is marked:
    ROTAX V990P
    854912

Bike is in mint condition, battery and fuel were removed before
shipping. Coolant reservoir and oil tank are full. Tires are
    virtually new.
Any way this could be registered in the US? Not sure how to proceed
    with the invalid VIN.
Any ideas or info on the bike would be appreciated.
Also, do Western European contries use the same VIN verification system
as the US, Canada amd Mexico? Here, the check digit is VIN position #9
which is the result of an algorithm applied to all 17 VIN digits.
Could it be exporting the UK? Could the VIN be valid in the UK or
    other European countries?
    Thanks,
