The redline in 3rd on the Thou can't be too far off that as well.

Might have to have a look-see this weekend if it finally stops
    raining.

Yeah. I think holding on to it and selling in the spring will be a
    much better plan.

Mind you, if things go according to plan with the contract I had a
meeting about today, then I can keep it and maybe even upgrade it to
something including the number 10 and letters X, R and Z.

It's only an ickle Bandit. :)
That's fast, and people turbo these things. Feck.

Heh, followed by the con rods making their own little holes. :)

Yeh, warm the engine, tyres, brakes up carefully.... then let the engine
spin up. You'll get to know what gears / rpm is ideal for what you want
to do. Have fun, but keep an eye on the petrol as those bikes have a too
small tank imho. When you start using the engine the way it likes to be
used, you will run out. :)

Oddly enough, my bike seems to return better MPG the harder I ride it,
although I haven't measured very scientifically. But like Tim, I'm coming
from a car (that rarely revs over 2.5k) and I'm a lazy fucker when it comes
    to gear selection.

I thought that an engine produced the most go per gallon at around its
maximum torque output, which would be at about 11,000 rpm for the
Hornet, if I remember the power figures in this thread correctly.

I reckon that's accurate. Stands to reason really, dunnit.
9,500 rpm if I quoted it right earlier on. Sounds like rather a lot
of revs to keep an engine spinning at for maximum economy, mind.

    Yeh, I suppose so.

I think I got muddled up with my FZR figures there.
I find it a bit tiring to keep the Bandit spinning over where it's got
maximum pickup in every gear. Although for brief moments, it's fun.

It will, but it'll be running a lot less efficiently as well, at that

You'd also be in danger of becoming a petrol muppet.

    That's a lot out of a Hornet.
It's just me being all technically correct, but completely useless about
stuff again. It's just how I am, I like to know all sorts of technical
details about things mechanical that nobody else seems to care about.
    There, I said it.

If your goal is to eek out the litre and half of fuel in your tank to get
you to the next service station 23 miles down the road.

Blimey, I wonder what my CG125 would do in that situation?

  20. Especially if you have ignored all previous refuelling opportunities and
are riding a GS1150 with the optional 32-litre tank.
