It's time to start the engine rebuild on the B44 and superficial issues
will be the first things to be dealt with.

The first of these is that I have 1 slightly bent cylinder barrel fin.
How di i go about fixing that?

The second is getting the cases nice n clean. Should I do it myself -
if so, what methods have people found good for getting dirty old cases
clean and ready for polishing? If not doing it myself, is there a blast
cleaning method that's suitable? I'm happy doing the final mopping of
cases, but its the shifting of grime on the non-shiny inner cases,
rocker cover and cyl barrel that I'm wondering about.

In the dishwasher, with ordinary dishwasher detergent. Seriously.

And now, the voice of experience:

    1. Do not do this when there is any chance of the SO discovering what
    you're doing.

    2. Get rid of as much oil residue as possible first. This is because it
"mayonnaises" with the water and detergent and coats the inside of the
dishwasher with said mayo. This may lead to (1) above.

    3. Do not put engine bits in with the crockery. This is because the
mayo (see 2 above) will coat all the plates and glasses and lead to (1).

Same mighty bollocking applies when caught using the oven - only replace
    mayo with soot

  8. True, a total waste.

When I was at school I let some dry on the headmaster's study's doorhandle.

You can easily repair bent fins, by applying soap and heating with
good sized industrial propane torch till soap goes black, then
carefully and slowing tapping back into line with a strip of hardwood,
and a copper/hide hammer. Dont let the fin get cold and keep trying to
    move it................it will snap deffo!

Degrease cases with TFR and steam cleaning, then get them vapour
blasted, or bead blasted with fine glass bead. Its crucial that all
blast media is cleaned out of the cases when the job is done though.

Finally I would be cautious in rebuilding a 441 motor, if you have no
specific experience with Brit engines, as they can be pretty fiddly and
if its not done 100% right, then you can end up with major problems.

Phew, thanks for that advice. I was thinking of throwing caution to the
wind and not really doing it 100% right.

It's a very unstable chocolate-coloured solid compound made by adding
iodine to a solution of ammonia.

When dry, it will be detonated if a fly walks on it, or just by the
friction of air passing over it.

Relatively harmless, even in fairly large dollops, we used to filter out
the precipitate and while it was still wet, smear it on radiators or on
the floor, or other places. Once, I dotted it over the dining hall walls
(well away from my table) and the continual <CRACK!> sounds drove poor
    old Charlie [1] bonkers.

Looking at the pic of your T100 (?), it looks like you need all the
advice you can get! It is fitted with silencers that are far too short,
and also looks like the motor is a bitsa, and not the right one for the
    bike.

I haven't rebuilt a 441 before but it was just that your advice was a
bit general. I've owned around a dozen Brit bikes in my time and am an
ex-toolmaker. Any particular bits to watch out for in your experience?
