Do I smell the aroma of a hypothetical diesel/petrol confusion scenario?

Yebbut what is the mix running at 25:1? 50:1 on yer modern bikes?
Which would make it an extra 20p a litre on your fuel costs.

  3. My missus buys my lad's 2 stroke oil from Morrisons along with the shopping.
It is very cheap, very pink and very thin so I wouldn't recommend it for use
    in the RG

You may hypothesise in that direction, but I couldn't possibly
    comment.

Yep, seen the results. On someone else's bike though.

I've heard that it's called 'cold seizure', due (I think) to the fact
that the pistons warm up quicker than the bores and liquid-cooled
    beasts run tight-ish tolerances.

It has fully synthetic oil. Don't mix synthetic with mineral based is
what is meant by by don't mix oils.

Different fully synth brands won't (AFAIK) be a problem.

****, you said you wouldn't say anything. I even paid you 45 litres of
slightly diesely contaminated petrol to keep your mouth shut.

    Champ says...
    And here he is.

In short, using semi-synth 2-smoke oil, or mineral 2-smoke oil in a bike
that is already using fully synthetic oil will probably result in a
seizure of the engine. Reasons being two fold.

Firstly, the two types of oil don't mix well and if they manage to make
it past the oil pump and into the engine, their efficiency is
    drastically reduced.

Secondly, As I said before they don't mix. What happens is they form a
gel-like substance which pretty quickly blocks the oil pump meaning the
engine doesn't get any lubrication. Kiss goodbye to barrels, pistons and
    crank in short order.

I very much doubt if Paul Carmichael ran it on anything but the finest
quality fully synthetic 2-smoke oil. I mean, the bloke is fucking loaded
so he could easily afford to. Also, it's a well known fact that RGV
engines aren't too reliable if run on anything less. I think he may have
been told this when he bought the bike and carried it on.

My recommendation would be Motorex Racing Power 2T, the best Putoline or
Silkolene offerings[1]. If I couldn't get anything else I'd use Castrol
or PJ1, but I wouldn't use the bike hard while it was in there. Avoid
Bel-Ray and Agip like the plague, mainly because both the importers are
total cunts and their oil is shite, you'd be better off using washing up
    liquid.

[1] Forget what they are called, but ensure they are suitable for
injector systems if using the oil pump. Some are pre-mix only oils for
    MX bikes.

I thought Agip was good quality oil - is this a case of my perception of
their product as I've never used it or just your dislike of the importers?

See champ, see! I'm right! Some modern racing two strokes use premix -
    not just ancient old hacks.

I used to get 18mpg out of mine when using it properly (less if riding
slowly). You don't notice the oil price when you have a petrol cooled
    engine.

Not jusy my perception. Ferrari and Ducati stopped recommending it
because they experienced some major engine failures when they were
    touting it around their dealers.
Most race bikes and MX bikes use auto-lube injector pumps, but there's a
die-hard core of racers who still mistrust them and rely on premix to
ensure the oil gets to where it needs to be. Oil manufacurers still have
some premix oils that will do the job, but tbh most of them haven't been
developed any further over the last 15 years, whereas injector oils have
    been gradually perfected.

Wouldn't have anything to do with a large sponsorship deal with Ferrari
and Shell - Agip losing out on the deal as they couldn't bring enough
money to the party to pay Schumacher's wages?

That apparently wasn't the basis of the story. Agip are a huge concern
in Italy and after they got involved with those two major manufacturers
they were certainly Europe-wide, with all the good publicity they
enjoyed they had more than enough cash. This time it really was mainly
    about the product.
