A recent post about 125's got me thinking.
I really love the power of my crosser and find working on the engine really
    simple.
So it got me thinking about a 250 2 stroke road bike. It's got to be cheap
    to run, buy and maintain.
And it's got to be able to give the local power rangers a shock. And it's
also got to carry a 17 stone born again slimmer.

    RGV??

I reckon I'd have a TDR on sticky rubber.

  4. They blow up. Yamaha TZR250 is a safer bet.

What is it with road bikes? My crosser's suspension can easily cope with 17
    stone.
I can set it to a perfect 90mm of sag.

Check your sig.... CR250 with daytime MoT and supermoto wheels/tyres....

My CRM, whilst a bit shit on the motorway (90-odd taking up a whole lane,
weaving like a bastard) could easily piss on over half the
sportsbikes/riders at Donington last Day of Champions. And that was on
knobblies. Any advatage they made on the straights they soon lost on the
corners as i could take any line I wanted and still stuff 'em.... So
actually why not a CRM? About 2/3 the power of the CR (max) but at least
    it'll be less fragile. Ish.

No, I'd like one in the sports genre.

Well in that case, ignore my previous post... Hows about a Yamaha R1-Z?
Tried and tested Yamaha parallel 250 twin, bur more stylish than an RD and
at least it wouldn't be common (obv neither would parts, but the engine must
share quite a few bits with either the TZR or LC 250).

    To be honest, if you're over 5' 7" and/or 10 stone then a full-on 250 sports
bike'll just look like it's wedged up your arse crack.......... No offence
like, but I followed Monz when he rode my 955i (*not* a small bike) and
that's how it appeared to me, so the mental image of 17 stone on a
TZR/RGV/NSR(my choice of 250 v-twin sports, btw, in MC21 guise) is just not
one I'd care to have as I reckon it'd be about the same, relatively speaking
    sizewise....

Shouldn't be a problem - if I've done my sums correctly

    MZ ETZ

    Yerrsss, I've had this thought.

Completely irrelevant to your needs, but the thought reminded me of a
site I once found about a bloke in the States who'd made a sports 500
V-twin out of two 250 motocross motors. I think it used one gearbox by
driving the clutch from two different points. *Want*!

    Macie says...
I did the Botafot with Champ and a few others about 3 years ago. Champ
was on his ZX9-R and I was on a 1987 RD350LC F2 Powervalve. The agility
of the LC down the lanes shocked a few people that day, but I only
weighed about 9 stone back then. I'm a lardy 11 stone bloater now.

  14. There's a serviceable-looking PE175 on Ebay right now. Been used for
off-roading, but looks like it could be made road-legal again for not
    much dosh.
