    Hi,

I'm new here, so please be nice.

I'm about to get my first bike.

    Atm, I'm considering either a:

    Kawasaki 250 zzr

    or

    Honda 250 cbr

I'm not interested in a trailbike or cruiser at this stage, just a
sporty and comfortable road bike for around $3-5K second hand. Any
recommendations? Or is it that for a learner bike, once you've cleared
up any issues in terms of maintenance, it really just comes down to how
    the bike fits?

    Cheers,

    Al

Forget the CBR. And if you want to save a few bucks go the GPX250. Same
engine, and maybe even slightly quicker.

Just for something different, what about a Hyosung? The GT250R certainly looks sporty. I've never ridden one so have no idea on how
sporty it is or isn't in reality, but have seen a few in the flesh recently and they look very nice.

I think they're fairly cheap as well.

Why forget the CBR? It's probably the better choice (in a ZZR/GPZ/CBR
    competition).

OP should look at Kawasaki ZZR250 & GPX250, Suzuki Across, Yamaha
Zeal, Honda VTR250 and CBR250R - sit on them all and buy the one you
    like.

Not on the parameters specified it's not.

    JL
(but I'd buy the CBR over the ZZR for myself)

Probably more sporty than my Vmoto Milan. It's all relative.

    And KR over either?

    Zebee

KR1 or KR1S, yes. KR, no, the CBR250RR is a better bike than the first
of the KR series (and yes I'm being pedantic :)
Ewww <screwed up face> how you supposed to get your knee down on one of
    those, oh the humanity !!
