That's probably because there are very few cool tiny, cheap geared bikes
    that haven't already blown up.[1]

Scooters on the other hand - there are loads.

[1] a CG125 /SR125 is not cool. It may suffice if there is nothing else, but
    it is still not cool.

  3. "The RD250LC. Expressly designed for wheelie-ing learners into trees"
was how it was described at the time. Largely because of its off-on
    powerband.

  4. In my case a pre-disastered Honda C70. All 3 of my older brothers had
had it and abused it mercilessly (ran at max revs, forgot the oil
changes, gaffa-taped any bits that fell off etc etc).

As did I. Until it finally (finally!) gave up the ghost in a fairly
terminal stylee. Or at least I assume it did - having bits of the
engine internals becomeing external to the engine casing is usually
    fairly terminal I suspect.

I did manage to get my parents to fund me a nice shiney new XL125 on
the basis of being at college in Watford though. Which was good.
But plenty of blokes with red flags walking in front of them eh?

I used to have a 2000 SV650S, with carbs. If this one has carbs then
it's piss easy - there's two washers that go in the carbs to restrict
flow, and that's it. See pic:

Tell him to enjoy, and if he can't GHKD on that I'm available to
    demonstrate.

Judging by the way I think when I'm in the car, that's not a good idea.

"Can I filter down that gap?"
    "As I can't wheelie, can I slide instead?"[1]
"Haha! I've got a cage round me now - I'm invincible!"

[1] not that I can wheelie when I'm on the bike, mind.

I think that the other thing to consider is that scooters require very
little skill to ride - you just twist and go, i.e, go from A to B with
minimal involvement. Geared machines take a bit more skill to control and
are more involving, which is why they prolly don't appeal to twats.
It felt cool riding an SR125 on my CBT / DAS.
