Thought this may have been an April Fool till I checked the date.

"Computerised lamp-posts look like being the basis of the biggest data
network ever, as the world's traffic monitors set about controlling cars
    with wireless....."

    http://www.newswireless.net/articles/040114-lamppost.html

"....The trigger for the new wireless revolution is a decision - not
just in the UK, but world-wide - that traffic needs to be monitored.
Cars need to be identified electronically; their speed checked all the
time (not just when going past cameras!) and even more critically, data
needs to flow back to the drivers, ensuring they know what is going on
    ahead of them...."

"I was too busy reading about the queue on the in car traffic ahead

wife got flashed at last night in the car by a gatso. Indicated 22mph
    in a 20mph zone.

As she's a community midwife, she spends most of her day driving &
reckons she now spends more time checking the speedo, watching for
cameras & trying to figure out whether she's in a 20, 30 or 40mph zone
than she does actually looking at the road ahead.

Added to "sleeping policemen" & potholes 5-6inches deep, methinks these
things can be far more dangerous by causing distraction to the driver
than driving at 28/30mph in a 20 mph zone.

Or is my logic at fault?

Methinks your logic is extremely sound.

Then she's clearly not in full control of the vehicle and should slow
    down to a safer speed.

so you reckon 22mph is too fast?

Put away thy bike & walk.

Jesus H. If this is the standard of poster we can expect over the
next few days, can somebody in the area please firebomb the Black
Horse so we can up the sentience:mong ratio back here on the group?

  8. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
I agree; the standard of post has declined sharply. The obvious answer
    to...

    Is...

    **** off.
    Safety Nazi.
    ****.

We have those here. At 120kph. So people tend to turn the radio up.

Wonder if they have them fitted to bikes...

I found out that a new GSXR1000 is the QR equiv. of 6,752.26ukp. A
    GSXR750 is 5,851.96. Hmm.

FWIW here in Merkania the manufacturer's suggested retail prices are:

    GSX-R1000 $10,599 = £5,789
    GSX-R750 $9,599 = £5,243

Real prices are usually lower, so it is not unusual to have the 'on the
road' price including tax and license to be roughly equal to or even
    below the MSRP.

And yes, if you're a spotty-faced 16 year old rich kid with a newly
minted license, you can walk into a Suzuki showroom and ride out on a
    gixxer thou.

Therein lies the vagaries of exchange rates. QR to USD gives a
different number. And I should convert to USD, because that's what
I'm paid in. But I still convert to UKP because that's what I think
    in.
    Quite right too.

I used http://www.xe.com for the exchange rate, I have no idea how
realistic their rates are, but they're probably not too far off the
    mark.

Re the thinking bit: It gets worse as you get older, it's hard to shake
off your childhood memories of what you think things should cost...

That's what I used, too. I wish it would default to Full Listing,
though - because I use to and from Qatar Riyal the most!
Oh, blimey I'm already doing that!

Ferfucksake, that's just over half what they cost here. For the Thou
    anyway.
    No problem. One less American.

Tra lal laa la la... did I mention petrol is 24p/liter here? :^)
And the great unwashed are 'whingeing to ****' about how expensive
it is! And of course they are driving a 5000 lb vehicle that gets 14
    miles to the gallon.
    You're not wrong!

  20. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Verdigris"
At 22mph? I don't think so. Seems utterly absurd.
